Sylvester Yeitch Cold Command Fourth Horse Veitch Will Saddle in Derby DerbySYLVESTER SYLVESTER VEITCH is sending out C V Whitneys Cold Command in quest I of his first Derby victory Cold Command marking his fourth try He just missed with Phalanx in 1947 on his first Mr Trouble was third and Dooly unplaced in 1950 and last year Counter ¬ point who later was to become Horse of the Year and his stable mate Mameluke were unplaced Syl Veitch is an all around horse ¬ man for he is the son of a steeplechase rider rotner was a trainer ana before becoming a trainer in his own right he served for many years as the farm man ¬ ager of the Whitney establishment near Lexington Thus he is fundamentally well grounded in horsemanship He took over a division of the Whitney string to train in 1946 and his record as a trainer since then has been to put it mildly brilliant He is cut out by temperament to be a good trainer for he seldom if ever gets ruffled has extreme patience and has an eye for conformation
