Arthur W Abbott Abbott Has One of Choices In Blue Man in First Derby Try TryARTHUR ARTHUR WARREN ABBOTT is start ¬ ing his first Derby horse in Blue Man and he is fortunate enough to have one of the solid choices in the race a rare stroke of good fortune for what is known on the turf as a new man Ab ¬ bott is a former minor league baseball player having played ball for some 15 years includ ¬ ing stints with Utica in the New York State league Portland in the New England league and Augusta Maine in the Trolley league While he was playing ball in August home town he also operated a dairy and from there he went to Rye N Y where he is now in the ice cream business businessAbbott Abbott has been dabbling with horses on and off ever since 1932 In 1950 he pur ¬ chased a half brother to Blue Man from Allen T Simmons of Akron Ohio The fol ¬ lowing year Abbott looked at Blue Man watched him work and so the story goes was given until nine oclock the next morn ¬ ing to make up his mind He purchased the colt privately the next morning at seven Abbott has had several offers for Blue Man this winter which he declined one a re ¬ ported 125000
