Continue Efforts to End Deadlock Royal Flavor Ace Destroyer Victors HopeforSettlement In WeekEnd Talks TalksBoth Both HBPA Lincoln Officials Reject Each Others Offers Sportsmans Dark Full Week WeekBy By J SWEENEY GRANT GRANTStaff Staff Correspondent HAWTHORNE Cicero HI May 10 Negotiations between the Lincoln Fields Racing Association and members of the Horsemens Benevolent and Protective As ¬ sociation have thus far failed to end the strike which has prevailed in this sector since last Monday Several meetings be ¬ tween the two parties held yesterday at Hawthorne where the Lincoln Fields Rac ¬ ing Association will hold its 1952 session brought forth statements from both parties The management offered a proposal of a purse distribution of 140200 for the first six days of the meeting which is scheduled to get under way Monday The HBPA rejected this offer and continued to stand firm on their demands for a per ¬ centage formula in regard to daily dis ¬ tribution tributionLater Later Joseph G Kohout vicepresident of the horsemens organization stated that his executive committee would settle for a minimum distribution of 28000 daily with an additional 1000 based on each 25000 increase in mutuel handle over compara ¬ tive days of last year The offer of the management would call for a 23660 plus daily distribution The demands were cal ¬ culated oh an approximate 50 per cent share of the contemplated tracks share of the mutuel wagering and breakage 140200 Figure Would Stand StandThe The management in its offer stated that should the handle fail to come up to ex ¬ pectations the weekly offer of 140200 would remain constant If wagering more than satisfied expectations members of the HBPA and management would confer each ensuing Monday in regard to purse increases increasesWhen When contacted this morning Kohout stated that We have rejected their pro ¬ posals and that the next move is for them the management to come to us with counteroffers He added We remain definite in our demands and deem them fair and just Robert O Read national president of the HBPA was expected to arrive from his Columbus Ohio residence later in theefternoon John A Manfuso adviser to the national organization of the HBPA came in earlier in the morning from Washington D C and met with Kohout and members of the local committee committeeA A bulletin issued this morning to horse ¬ men advised them to hold their group and not to enter their horses today for Mon ¬ days program The bulletin also pointed out that combined track management is isContinued Continued on Page Three Continue Efforts to End Deadlock on Distribution DistributionBoth Both HBPA and Lincoln Officials To Resume Talks on Week End EndContinued Continued from Page One attempting to break the situation and gave reference to a statement released yester ¬ day by the Thoroughbred Racing Associa ¬ tions condemning the strike strikeIn In another of his bulletins Kohout stated that Ray Carroll head of the Mutuel Clerks Union in Michigan had extended the horsemen his organizations vote of confidence and that the majority of Mutuel Clerks Union in the Midwest sector were behind them Joseph Doubek president of the Mutuel Clerks Union of Illinois re ¬ futed the statement and said that My organization has nothing whatsoever to do with Mr Carrolls organization organizationMembers Members of the Illinois chapter of the Mutuel Clerks Union are ready to assume their regular duties should Hawthorne race Monday MondayA A check with racing secretary Lawrence C Bogenschultz revealed that a number of entries for Mondays card have been re ¬ ceived The racing secretary was noncom ¬ mittal when asked if he thought he had enough entries to fill at least an abbre ¬ viated program It was thought that sev ¬ eral of the entires already received con ¬ tained the stipulation that they were riot to be used unless the strike had been set ¬ tler5 to the satisfaction of both the Lincoln Fields management and the HBPA The Crete Inaugural Handicap a 10000 added event was to have featured Mondays card Nomination fees long since have been re ¬ ceived for the sixfurlong dash and there was some speculation as to whether the race would have to be presented as sched ¬ uled should a minimum of three or four horses accept the issue No comment on the situation was given by the management managementBoth Both parties were hopeful that an ami ¬ cable agreement could be worked out either late today or some time Sunday afternoon Racing secretary Bogenschutz and mem ¬ bers of his staff will be on hand Sunday to accept entries should the present situa ¬ tion come to an end endWilliam William H Johnston president of the National Jockey Club operators of nearby Sportsmans Park gave up all hope of end ¬ ing the strike early Saturday morning The Sportsmans track was dark all week
