JOCKEY JAMES STOUT Guided Spar ¬ tan Valor to a new track record win ¬ ning performance Valley Forge Easy for Spartan Valor Hells Star Lowers Garden State Mark MarkExtends Extends Win Streak to Seven After Leading Throughout to Delight of Crowd of 31353 31353By By WILLIAM C PHILLIPS PHILLIPSStaff Staff Correspondent GARDEN STATE PARK Camden N J May 10 William G Helis Jrs Spartan Valor this afternoon won the 20000 added Valley Forge Handicap by three and one half lengths in a new track record time of 140 for one mile and 70 yards in a manner that could not have been any easier had he been out for a morning gallop He certainly looked like a champion as he moved another step forward on the trail to being declared a great horse making this his seventh consecutive vic ¬ tory since January last winter at Hialeah establishing his second track record and pocketing his sixth stakes purse money which today amounted to 16250 and in ¬ creased his earnings in 1952 to 175900 175900The The crowd of 31353 were truly thrilled with the sight of such a beautiful running horse and they raised a clamor that did not abate until the trophy presentation was made by congressman Raymond J Madden of Indiana They placed prohibi ¬ tive faith in their New Jerseybred cham ¬ pion and they collected 260 and 240 with no show wagering wageringOnly Only four horses opposed Spartan Valor J J Starlings Fair Game being declared this morning when he showed signs of sore ¬ ness Bedford Stables Call Over finished closest to Sparty as he is known around the Helis barn with a head separating him from Joe Gavegnanos Joey Boy They pro ¬ vided the only contention if it could be so called and King Ranchs Sonic was another three and a half lengths to the rear with River Divide Farms Mass OGold drawing up the band 10 lengths up the stretch stretchLeaves Leaves Gate in Full Stride StrideJockey Jockey Jimmy Stout who comprised the greater portion of the 130 pounds shoul ¬ dered by Spartan Valor had him away from the gate in full stride and thereafter continuously swung around in the saddle from side to side just to see where the others were while he kept a tight hold on the reins Spartan Valor was not allowed to really extend himself at any time per ¬ mitting Call Over and Joey Boy to remain about a length and a half behind through the first five furlongs It was not neces sary for Stout to call on Spartan Valor to increase his advantage for the others just wilted and Stout then reached for an even stronger hold on the reins through the last furlong with Spartan Valors ears pricking and sideto Stouts ead still swinging from side to side just to make sure Stout Burr and Permane each shaved winning honors on the program with double victories The mutuel play was very heavy and the Daily Double handle of 194068 established a new alltime record for the 11year history of New Jersey racing smashing the former mark set here on Labor Day in 1946 1946The The exceedingly fast condition of the racing strip was demonstrated in the Moorestown Purse when Henry A Kimballs Algasir spirnted the six furlongs under 121 pounds in IWVs to gain a nose decision over Carolyn K Stables Whiffenpoof with whom he had engaged in a dingdong battle for command from the very begin ning This was the swiftest spirnt of the meeting bettering the 110 hung out by Mrs A Roberts Sedgeview in his favored triumph in the preceding race Mrs J Carsons Kinsman closed with his usual late energy to be third but still five lengths behind Algasir The heavily played entry of John L McKnights Play Toy and Mr Buster failed to play a prominent part when Play Toy broke slowly from the gate and Mr Buster tired
