Many Horsemen Think ArcadiaTrained Trotter Will Capture Hambletonian Two Gaits Farm Has Pair Of Excellent Prospects in Volo Colby Excellent Colby ColbySANTA SANTA ANTTA PARK Arcadia Calif May 10 Many of the shrewdest horsemen here are of the opinion that the Hamble ¬ tonian winner is on the grounds It is a fact as shown by the records that a dozen or more of very promising threeyearold trotters are here and that all of them with the single exception of Great Colby are eligible to the 1952 Hambletonian Stakes at Goshen worlds greatest and richest trotting event which is annually trotted late in August Balph AugustBalph Baldwin head trainer for Two Gaits Farm has a pair of brilliant Ham ¬ bletonian prospects in Volo Colby and Excellent Colby Both of these sons of Colby Hanover have shown fine form Vole going in 2 05 in his last effort and Excellent having carried off a couple vof purses Baldwin will drive Volo while his assistant Les Whipkey will have the reins on Excel ient when the pair happen to go as an entry These Indianapolisowned colts have shown sharp improvement and are certain to be much in the public eye between now and the date of the Hambletonian HambletonianDallas Dallas Hanover Frequent Winner WinnerSharp Sharp Note owned by C W Clark of Dearborn Mich is another fine prospect for the great midsummer classic He won his only start of the meeting here in 2 05 with ease but those behind him were not suchamuch Guy Crippen has a poten ¬ tial good one in Beau Brummel a son of Worthy Boy who has raced fairly close up on several occasions to Duke of Lull water and Hit Song two of the best at the tune Hes owned by Ralph Kroening of Milwaukee the man who won the big race last fall with Mainliner MainlinerHayes Hayes Fair Acres Farm owners of Pronto Don and Dudley Hanover older champions of the two gaits have a likely Hambletonian prospect in Theme Song Benny Schue drove this son of Algiers in 205 and 205 in his only two starts of the current meet ¬ ing while competing with good ones onesDallas Dallas Hanover who won two Straight last fall at Hollywood Park and repeated at Santa Anita with two more victories before yielding a head decision to Scotch Me stacks up as Joe OBriens top Hamble ¬ tonian prospect Hes by His Excellency and is owned by a New Jersey sportsman Another in the Joe OBrien barn is Dinner Date Shes by Algier and owned by the Kansas horseman A L Derby Jr Dinner Date has won four races in her 18 starts but faltered badly in her last attempt Anyhow fillies never fare very well in the Hambletonian as a rule ruleOther Other Hambletonian prospects who have trained this spring at Santa Anita include Jen Hanover trained by Ken Cartnal Neon a Volomite filly in Ralph Baldwins barn Wichita Queen an Algiers filly trained by Joe OBrien and who was a good thing in her one and only start which took place here on March 20 a race which she won with ridiculous ease Still an ¬ other eligible is Lu Peck a colt who has twice trotted well here Safford Hanover in Joe McFadderisbarn and Sire Hanover one of Harry Fitzpatricks sons of Scotland are other Hambletonian eligibles in training here hereOrdinarily Ordinarily the Hambletonian field is a very big one so that the odds against any horses chances are long But there are horsemen here who are willing to wager that a Santa Anitatrained horse will finish in the money come Hambletonian Day at Goshen late this summer
