Jackson Raceway Shows 52 Pet Handle Increase IncreaseTotal Total of 284455 Wagered at Michigan Track orr Five Nights NightsJACKSON JACKSON Mich May 10 With the first week of its 32night spring harness racing meeting completed Jackson Race ¬ way was showing a 52 per cent increase in wagering over the corresponding period of its 1951 meeting meetingThe The mutuel handle for the f irst five nights the sixth program was canceled Thursday because of a wet track totaled 284455 against 180336 sent through the mutuel windows the first five nights a year ago agoTrack Track officials attribute the increased play to several factors steadily increasing interest in trotting racing the installation of automatic totalisator equipment this year at Jackson Raceway the extensive remodeling program of the parimutuel and the high calibre of the standardbred stables attracted to the Raceway this sea ¬ son because of the 20 scheduled early closing events with their increased purses The gasoline situation which steadily worsened through the first week of the meeting was responsible for loss of patron ¬ age and had it not existed the manage ¬ ment is convinced the increase in wagering would have been even more spectacular spectacularFour Four stake events are scheduled for the coming week with the Clinton Trot set for Monday the Shiawassee Pace on Wednesday the Monroe Trot on Friday and the Jackson Pace next Saturday The Shiawassee closed with 41 entries and Don H Roberts race secretary indicates that when the pacers are declared in for this event Monday morning it is a certainty that it will be split into two divisions
