Ladd Takes Back Again Purse for His Second Successive Victory at Pimlico Shouse Homebred Defeats t ► Big Night by Two Lengths; Favored Larrieweil Tnird By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 21— The Back Again Purse, designed for two-year-olds which were shown in the 1952 yearling show conducted by the Maryland Horse Breeders Association, featured this afternoons Pimlico program and enabled Jouett Shouses Ladd to accomplish his second successive victory at the meeting. Mrs. Samuel M. Pistorios Big Night was second, beaten two lengths and holding a seven -length advantage over Three W Stables Larrieweil. Overhead conditions remained uncertain throughout the afternoon and the track was fast, although on the "dead side. Ladd, a colt by High Lea — Joanny, was timed in 1:00% over the five-furlong distance and returned .40 to his supporters in the crowd of 9,998. The victory was the second straight feature-race accounting for owner Shouse, trainer Bernie Bond and jockey Nick Shuk, the trio having ac- t ► . counted for yesterdays Middleburg Purse with Cinda. The start was no bettef than fair and Big Night assumed command and rapidly drew clear along the backstretch. He was pursued by Mrs. R. H. Heighes Adage early and this colt, while making his debut, may have had considerable to do with the outcome. The favored Larrieweil was within striking distance to midway of the turn and had just commenced his rally from the outside when he was taken beyond the center of the track as Adage raced extremely wide. With Larrieweil deprived of all chance of overtaking the leader, it was Ladd who charged from three lengths off the pacemaker to collar him and prove far superior in the final stages. Larrieweil managed to take a neck verdict for third position, with Oscar L. Nybergs Bad Conduct fourth. William Leftwichs" Danherst, a stakes performer for the late William G. Helis in his younger days, scored another victory in the fourth race, but it may well be the last of his career.
