Grecian Queen in High Fleet Purse Engages Ten Filly | Rivals at Belmont Whitaker Miss Will Be Out To Atone for Acorn Defeat; Miss Nancy Is Running Mate BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y. May 21. — Mrs. Ben P. Whi takers Grecian Queen is given an opportunity to make partial amends for her crushing defeat in the Acorn Stakes tomorrow when she meets 10 rival three-year-old fillies in the High Fleet Purse at a mile and a furlong. This ,500 overnight event is named for George D. Wideners Coaching Club American Oaks winner of 1936, and six of the 11 in it are also eligible to this years Oaks, which will be renewed at a mile and three furlongs on June 6. Grecian Queen could finish no bettter than sixth at 9 to 10 odds in the Acorn at one mile, flattening out badly in the upper stretch after making a threatening move passing the three-furlong pole. Ovie Scurlock took the Heliopolis filly to the inside, saving ground, though she always showed a pronounced distaste for racing on the inside. Also, she was forced to run through what the jockeys declare was at that time a deep path in the upper stretch from the quarter pole to the eighth pole. Grecian Queen will be coupled with Mr. Whitakers Miss Nancy, who comes from a dull race behind Queens Moon at Jamaica. Guerin to Ride Fovorite Eric Guerin will ride Grecian Queen, who has the top impost of 118 pounds, while Miss Nancy and all the others get in with 108. No rider has been named for Miss Nancy as yet. There is another entry in the High Fleet, Jim Fitzsimmons saddling Sabette for Bel-air Stud and His Duchess for Ogden Phipps. Sabette was a surprise winner at Jamaica over Secret Meeting, who came back to win the Acorn, but the Belair filly more recently finished third behind two she meets in the High Fleet. These are Woolford Farms Dawn of Gold and Mrs. Ethel D. Jacobs Arista, who finished a head and a nose before her at the end of a mile and a sixteenth last week. Dawn of Gold will again be ridden by Bill Boland, who was a strong factor in her recent victory, while Nick Wall will pilot Sabette and no rider has been assigned to Arista. That filly finished very fast on the rail after being in rather tight quarters in the upper stretch. Myhelen Stables My Truly Fair. A. G. Vanderbilts Cahoots and Mrs. C. O. Iselins Me finished in that order behind Dawn of Gold, Arista and Sabette. Me had z. bandage come loose, while My Truly Fair was carried wide by Sabette. The High Fleet field is completed by Reginald N. Websters Petal, who finished far behind Grecian Queen in the Prioress Stakes, and Willy Schwabs Milspal, who was a badly beaten favorite here yesterday. The Oaks eligibles in the High Fleet are Grecian Queen, Sabette, Dawn of Gold, His Duchess and Cahoots. A victory by Grecian Queen under these weight conditions would again make her one of the favorites for the classic, as she preceded her Acorn defeat with four victories in a row.
