Apprenticeship Nears End PAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, 111., May 9 —Although he was a sensation in this area last season when he went to New Orleans, apprentice Clarence Meaux failed to display the form he showed local racing fans. The Louisiana reinsman won the first race of his career here last summer and before the end of the meeting was the owner of four winners. However, he moved over to Cahokia Downs and topped the riders, driving home 80 winners. He had but eight at the New Orleans Pair Grounds and through the racing of Saturday night at this track scored on three of his mounts in the two nights of racing once again to place him in front of local saddlesmiths. At the present time, Meaux has won with 96 mounts and has but four more to go before losing his five-pound apprentice allowance.
