Start good. Won driving; third the same. MABE CEE steadily improved her position to assume a slight lead at the furlong marker and, in a long drive under adept handling, lasted to finish on even terms with POOR JOHN. The latter, away fastest, relinquished the lead entering the stretch, tugged in slightly during the late stages, but under brisk urging was up in the final stride to dead-heat with MABE CEE. STORY TELLER, slow to attain best stride, rallied too belatedly to seriously endanger the top pair. AMENT tired. TEXTILE was outrun. KEY STAR failed to stay. APOPHASIS, always within striking distance, came fast when guided to the outside for the stretch run and, after taking command, won going away. HALTER LACE held sway to the stretch under hustling tactics, faltered when placed to pressure during the drive, but lasted to easily prevail over the others. OUR VALDINA was unable to improve her position when hard hustled through the late stages. GALLANT FANAR came out for the drive, but was not good enough. LAST FLING was unable to gain the lead and tired. BIG SWITCH stumbled leaving the gate and failed to threaten. DOE RUN was unable to keep up. BROWN CELLA never menaced. PERMIAN, reserved back of the early leaders, took command when ready during the run down the backstretch and continued on gamely thereafter, winning with speed in reserve. KHUMBABA moved up boldly between horses to reach near even terms for the lead after completing the seventh jump, faltered when shaken for the drive and was no match for the winner. ACTINIC raced evenly through the final furlong without mishap. ANTAGONIZER tired. SEREGAL began sluggishly and never was formidable. TIPPY DO was unduly persevered with when hopelessly beaten. LEVEE lacked the necessary rally. HIDE OUT was unable to attain the lead and tired. MANIHIKI was outrun. FIDDLING was unable to keep up. CASE GOODS alternated in setting and pressing the early pace, regained command leaving the final turn and briskly drew clear under intermittent urging. WINNING STRIDE attained the runner-up position nearing the furlong marker, was unable to reach the leader during the late stages, but held on determinedly to outgame SWEET NELL. The latter, one of the victims of the poor start, worked her way forward to the stretch, then closed with good courage, but rallied too belatedly to overtake the top ones. MISDEMEANOUR caught tiring horses. ROMAN WARBLER tired. MURPHS DEB saved ground to no avail. NOSE TROUBLE was through early. MICHIKEE began tardily and lost all chance. The latter, far back early, closed with a belated burst of speed and steadily was wearing down the leaders. BRADLEY, never far back, came out for the stretch run. but was not good enough. SAGANDAGA moved up boldly on the outside entering the stretch, but was unable to overtake the winner when hard hustled through the late stages. BROKEN WING, much used engaging for the early advantage, had little left when the real test came. RICHES had no apparent mishap. BARITONE BOB and FOGONAZO were outrun. CHESSIAN never menaced.
