BONNIE KELSO A BARGAIN YEARLING. New York, September 11. Bonnie Kelso, the Waterboy colt that established a new record of 2:32; for a mile and a half on the grass at Sheepshead Bay Thursday, was a 40 yearling. He was one of the first Waterboys that came to the eastern market, and he was so undersized no one seemed to want him. George Odom purchased the colt because of his daddy. When Waterboy was in his prime in 1903 Odom was the st.-ir jockey of the eastern circuit, and he did most of the important riding for Jack Joyncr. It was he. who rode the gigantic son of Watercress to his brilliant victories in the Brighton and Saratoga Handicaps. Odom had a tender spot in his heart for Waterbov. Bonnie Kelso looked like a bad bargain last fall. He had run in all sorts of races and had failed to make good, nnd Odom was advised to get rid of hiiii But the former jockey declined to sell, and Bonnie .Kelso struck bis gait this reason. He is now the best grass racer In the country, and on the sod he can beat animals that are decidedly too much for him on the skinned tracks.
