IRON MASK II VICTOR Lucky to Annex Chief Offering at Collinsville Course Under Fires Defeat Attributed to toIncompetency Incompetency of His Rider Glister in Fast Time COLLINSVILLE 111 June 9 The Mira Monte Stock Farms threeyearold Iron Mask II was returned winner of the Chero ¬ kee Business Mens Association Purse which carried an endowment of 1200 and a hand ¬ some silver cup donated by the association for which the race was named Iron Mask IIs victory was probably a lucky one as he was best ridden and enjoyed a clear course throughout the mile and seventy yards He led from the start and finished a little more than a length better than did Golden Mac The hitters racing of late has been disap ¬ pointing but he showed to better advantage this afternoon and with better riding would have landed in advance of the winner The favorite in the race Under Fire was best Cheathams incompetcncy was pronounced and he repeatedly rode him into traps and was forced to take him up continuously In the stretch he came steadily but his weak rider just managed to land him in third place The nice which was the intended feature brought out six threeyearolds and they raced closely grouped for half a mile but thereafter Iron Mask II by virtue of the better riding held sway to the finish finishAnother Another surprisingly large crowd journeyed to Fairmount this afternoon to witness some spirited sport Betting activities were on a par with the best days and the public was eminently successful in their quest for win EQUAIS CAPTAIN HALS TIME TIMEThe The Audley Farm Stables Glister gave a fast exhibition in the fourth race which served as the secondary feature She won from Childs Play but she had to do her best near the end By racing the three quarters in 112 she equalled the time made by Captain Hal in the Collinsville Handicap Glister at one time during tne stretch racing appeared as if she would win with much in reserve but fhe tired badly in the last seventy yards and Childs Play ccming with a rush was in a fair way to head her in a few strides more Fast Time finished in third place placeThe The colors of J B Cloher were carried to their initial victory when Sandalwood made a runaway of it in the opening dash San ¬ dalwood racing in his best style moved into a long lead after going the first quarter and was easing up in the last sixteenth Al Stebler was lucky from the start and held on to second place without great effort during the stretch Cheathams handling of Coyne was weird and decidedly listless until the last seventy yards where he applied the whip with vigor and Coyne outstayed Northern Star The latter closed an immense gap during the stretch racing Hidden Jewel was on his bad behavior and refused to start with the others and sulked most of the way wayLUTIXE LUTIXE AT BEST BESTC C Graffagninis Lupine a previous disap ¬ pointment here raced in his best style in the second race and it enabled him to out ¬ stay Wellfinder after a sharp drive Lupine raced with the leaders from the start and after disposing of Colonel Winn drew into the lead to hold the race safe thereafter Wellfinder was far back for the first half mile but began moving up fast thereafter and was lucky to head Triplett in the last few strides for second place Triplett raced well and only gave way near the end endGood Good Times well backed ran away in the third race Sylvia kept him restrained until the last quarter where he moved into a long lead at once and had the race safe all during the last eighth Pictin going in his best form was a prominent factor for the entire distance and held on long enough to obtain second place from Kingsclere The latter U gan fast ilul after forcing the early ie began tiring and landed third place because of the inexperience of Post Mistress rider False Face was a disap ¬ pointment He was done after half a mile mileM M Barons Reward which in a precedinjc start was beaten off after failing to display any speed showed a vastly improved per ¬ formance in the sixth nice which she won after leading for the entire distance Mar mile used hustling tactics on her this after ¬ noon and she moved into the lead without difficulty and held sway to the end Trap dale hard urged in the last eighth finished in second place and Fore Iady headed the others Iivigne came in for extensive sup ¬ port in the race but she ceased to figure to any appreciable extent when it came to a 1U llradleys Bagenbaggage and Boot to Boot which will start in the Fairmount Uerby are expected to arrive here early next week to familiarize themselves with the racing ground here
