EMPIRE CITY MEETING ENDS East View Stakes Fall to Below Zero Track Is Muddy Son of Tryster Suited by Uncertain Footing Threatening Weather Holds Down Attendance NEW YORK N Y July 28 Below Zero a black son of Tryster Low Degree racing for C H Knebelkamp and ridden by the diminutive Cal Rainey was an easy winner of the East View Stakes which was the final stake offering of the Empire City meeting This youngster suited in the muddy going dashed into command at the rise of the barrier and never left the ultimate result in doubt Morpluck from the J H Louchheim stable was the one to race to second place while Dewey Benthams Abner was third Six started and the victory netted the win ¬ ner 2560 2560Racing Racing came to a close in New York City until September under disagreeable conditions Rain which threatened during the morning hours visited this section shortly before noon and turned the track int a sloppy strip which as the afternoon wore on became more holding and required the stoutest efforts of pronounced mudlarks The crowd while a representative one was below the usual Saturday attendance attendanceThe The start in the East View Stakes wag a good one and Galon Lad showed in front for a stride He surrendered the lead to Below Zero which dashed into a safe lead and dominated the race throughout Mor ¬ pluck from his usual slow beginning im ¬ proved his position on the inside and through the stretch finished well but could not seriously menace the winner while Ab ¬ ner which was looked upon as a good mud ¬ lark was somewhat of a disappointment in the race This fellow could not keep pace with the leaders and in the stretch disposed of Princess Athene and Galon Boy which tired badly badlyMrs Mrs K Jesbergers Dunbar ridden by Sammy Renick and suited by the going was a driving winner of the opening race of the day which was for platers at a mile and seventy yards This fellow was the top weight of the field and was kept close to the pace established by Guiding Light in the early stages He assumed command rounding the far turn and in a stretch drive held Foxland Hall safe The latter was the principal factor in the contention to the stretch and was gaining slowly at the finish Dunfern came to the outside of the leaders turning for home and closed ground but could not seriously menace the leaders while Dancing Boy finished fast to be fourth fourthA A close finish took place in the second race with the winner in doubt until the offi ¬ cial placing awarded the event to Mrs McKinley Bryants Mickeys Man over Mrs Louise Viaus Queens Flag with Mrs Rich ¬ ard Hermans Khelaboo third The winner was ridden by H Richards and closed with a rush along the inner rail after beginning slowly while Khelaboo another that lacked early speed finished fast on the outside outsideThe The start was delayed for several minutes and when the break came Recital breaking from the inside post position showed in front for several strides but the deep foot ¬ ing proved too much of a handicap and he dropped back Alanova Queens Flag Gen ¬ eral Play and Bird Lore were bunched to ¬ gether as the turn was neared It was here that Queens Flag drew away and when rounding the stretch turn Richards drove Mickeys Man through on the inside In a drive through the stretch Queens Flag shook off early opposition but faltered in the final few strides Khelaboo in the meantime was steered to the outside and through the final furlong was going the fastest of all allJockey Jockey J Wagner under contract to the Greentree Stable piloted his first winner in his brief career when he guided Taro Saunkiyas Sun Alley to a nose victory in the third which was over six furlongs for threeyearolds and over Grannys Trade was the one to race to second place while Noble Spirit was third The winner was suited in the going and kept close up from the start while Grannys Trade was farther back and on the outside while Noble Spirit slipped through on the inside turning for home Sun Alley when straightened out disposed of the leaders and in a hard drive managed to lead home Grannys Trade TradeJ J H Louchheims Propagandist made amends for the defeat of Morpluck when he was a clever winner vof the fifth race with Anna V L second and Black Falcon third The winner was kept under restraint until the far turn was reached where he moved up on the outside disposed of the leaders in the stretch and then drew away Anna V L which raced close up from the start managed to outlast Black Falcon which was probably best He was taken up at the start and then ridden through the heavier footing on the inside until the final furlong post where he came to the outside and fin ¬ ished with a rush rushCarey Carey Winfreys Stone Martin accounted for the final race of the meeting in a drive with Top High while Parity was third The winner was ridden by Merrittand domi ¬ nated the race all the way
