Proximity to Seek Repeat In Sportsmans Park Trot F lity, voted the 1950 Harness Horse of tc Year, faces the battle of her career , to get started in 1951 and take up where she left off in 50. The nine-year-old mare, who last July at the Chicago Downs meet- ting, at Sportsmans Park, broke the all-time money-winning record established .by :, Goldsmith Maid in her glory days, 1865-1877, when she won the 5,000 Sportsmans Trot, is entered in this years running of the classic. The Sportsmans Trot is scheduled to be run on Saturday night, August 4, and Ralph and Gordon Verhurst, the father and son combination owner and trainer of the "Queen of the trotters" are 1 pointing Proximity for the big stake. Plans were to ship the all-time record winning nine-year-old to Europe last fall, but were canceled when Proximity pulled up lame. She was treated at the Verhurst farm, Victor, N. Y., and then was shipped South to resume training. At present the mare is at Roosevelt Raceway on Long Island, where she is scheduled to make her 1951 debut in the qualifying dash of the 0,000 McConnell Memorial on June 22. After her proposed Roosevelt debut Proximity is scheduled to race at Goshen and Saratoga before coming here to fulfill her Chicago Downs engagement. Proximity earned 7,175 last year and her lifetime earnings stands at a record 52,929.67.
