SWAN SONG OF ENGLISH RACING Outside of such meetings as may l e provided at Newmarket by the Jockey Club the English tlat racing season of 1U15 terminated at Windsor Satur ¬ day May 21 and of an attendant incident the Lou don Sportsman of Monday said Just as the horses had passed the post for the linal race at Windsor on Saturday Mr Hobert Sievier stepped to the front on the press balcony in TaUersalls ring Asking for silence from the immense company assembled in both enclosures and outside whicli was obeyed with marvelous alacrity Mr Sievier said that sportsmen have always been most loyal to their king and coun ¬ try and on such an occasion as this when racing ceases for a time it was only lilting that those present should give another token of loyalty to their king Therefore Mr Dave Carter who was by his side would sing the lirst verso of the national an tueui Mr Carter then rendered the anthem which could he heard all over the course There was tre ¬ mendous cheering when he concluded Mr Sievier called for three cheers for the king the royal family the prince of Wales the army and Lord Kitchener in turn and this was responded to in the heartiest fashion The scene was i most impressive one and will not be readily forgotten by those present
