The Hopeful J is . for two-year-olds at three-quarters of a mile, with a guaranteed value of 0,000. It closed for fl entries on November 27, 1919, with 231 nominations, of which six are void on account of the death, of 3- the nominators. On March. 15, 1920, fifteen declared at 0 and on June i, 1920, sixty -five declared" at . 00, leaving 145 still eligible. The gross value of the race is now 0,250, not including; the starting q of fees. As the second horse will receive ,500 and the third ,500, the net value to the winner will be T The 1,250, plus the starting fees of 00 each, making it the richest Hopeful Stakes in its history. The m Hopeful was established in 1903 and .ali its winners were the foremost, it not the leading, two-year-olds of their year. With practically all the best of this years young racers eligible to the Hopeful, it seems certain that the best traditions of the race will be preserved.
