SPECTACULAR CONTEST * Monday Morning Scores by Inches in Aurora Feature. » Result in Doubt Until Final Strides — False Start Made in the Sixth Race. AURORA, 111., .Tune IT— Haughton and Woruns Monday Morning scored a lucky victory in the George M. Cohan Maiming Purse, fifth and feature attraction on the program at Exposition Park this afternoon. The winner raced close to the early leaders until straightened out in the home stretch, then closing rapidly, rushod to the leader, I.all Gee, and engaged the latter in a strenuous drive, which ensued throughout the final eighth when the two raced stride for stride, neither giving way an inch. The result was In douht until the last stride, and Monday Morning received the decision by a nose. BaU Gee began fast and set a furious pace to the stretch and soon shook off Volt and Tom P. after leaving the back stretch. Then, in the struggle with Monday Morning in the final eighth, held on well and ran a race deserving of victory. Tom P. bested the others for third place. Favorable weather again prevailed, with another excellent crowd on hand to witness the sport, which was marked with record breaking performances and spectacular finish! s. Ivgan auspiciously for the public in annexing the opeMr, winning all the way after assuming command shortly after the start. The winner made all the pace, and was never once seriously threatened. Kinburn. racing much improved and close up all the way, ■wore down the others in the stretch for second place. Karachi, crowded back after the start, closed a gap when clear in the ■treteh and was up for third place. T. J. Abrams Mighty accounted for the following race and, being overlooked in the ■wagering, paid his backers handsomely. Mighty was outrun to the stretch turn, then began closing up strongly and. under good riding, readily passed the leaders and, finishing gamely, was going away at the end. Guy Clayton saved second place after having Bet the pace to midway of the home streteh. II. K. Arnolds Floy Lilly began tardily, but came fast in the final eighth, and gained third place easily. W. M. Cain, represented by Guy Clayton, claimed Floy Lilly from this race for ,500. The Lone Star Stables Smoky Pay, showing goad speed and racing gamely all the way, shook off his opponents after turning out of the back stretch and came away decisively in the stretch to win as his rider pleased in the third race. Galatia, after meeting with early Interference, finished going very fast and outstayed Pitsy Pee for K: I i ml. Ilitsy Pee tired slightly in the final strides after showing gocd speed to the Stretch. ANOTHER FOR POI.YIEN . Polyfena of the F. J. OConnell stable, racing hack to her best form and overhauling Krla l.ee 11., an eighth out. during the stretch run. continued on gamely and outstayed Kmbryo in the last few yards to capture the purse in the fourth race. Kmliryo was going well at the end and secured second place irom the tiring Krla Tee II., after the latter began to tire from early efforts at maintaining the lead. Kitten on the Keys showed a good performance here, closing a tremendous amount of ground after being far out of it in the early running. In the sixth event, as the field was lining up in good order preparatory to the start, the harrier sprang up onexpectedljr, effecting a lain ami very had start. It was caused by Gna P. having kicked the starting bell during his fractious behavior at the post. The field was recalled at once hut not before 301 i id. King P and I.ahhling had heen used up eonsiderahly as a result of having got away at full speed and covered considerable distance before their riders could get them Under control. The real start was of the best order and. in the race which followed. Kehrah showed the way throughout and came away from her opponents with ridiculous ease during the last half, to win well under restraint. Ins P. was second, with pustproof finishing third. The victory of Fehr.ih comph ted a d table for the day for Haunhton .i lloran and also for jockey Moser. who piloted the winner, and also had the mount on Monday M.
