NEW RACING COMMISSION Governor F. B. Sampson Names Appointees Who Will Have Control Over Kentucky Racing. LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 5.— The long-deferred appointments to the Kentucky State Racing Commission were announced today by Governor F. B. Sampson. Those appointed are Polk Laffoon of Covington, chairman of the old commission ; Sewell Combs of Lexington, vice-chairman of the old commission ; Theodore E. Mueller, Louisville, manufacturer and prominent breeder and owner of thoroughbreds ; Frazier Le Bus of Lexington and W. E. Smith, president of the Standard Oil Company of Kentucky, whose home is in Louisville. The appointment of Messrs. Laffoon, Combs and Mueller was expected, but the names of Messrs. Le Bus and Smith had never been mentioned in connection with the appointments, and in naming them the governor sprang a surprise on the racing fraternity in the state. Xo name was mentioned for the office of secretary to the commission, and it is said that this appointment will be made when the new commission convenes.
