BEULAHS CAPACITY CROWD i i i Large Attendance at Columbus , Track — Principal Contest of J Day to Scotland Forever. COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 5.— Light showers • fell until noon, but only served to lay the , dust nicely. The sky cleared as the after- j noon progressed, and the half holiday crowd 5 swelled the attendance, which taxed to capac- ity the accommodation of the plant. The racing was spirited and the majority of the . finishes keenly contested. Oh Me left the maiden ranks when she . won the curtain raiser with something to spare after displacing Phronecheeta from the lead commencing the last quarter. Uncommon Gold was a fast-finishing third. As the field rounded the far turn. Tony the Clown and Seths Stranger fell. Jockey Barrett escaped with a slightly injured knee, and P. Cogan continued riding out his engagements. He was unhurt. J. Millers Scotland Forever took the honors and the best offering provided this afternoon, the Columbus Motorist Claiming Purse, run as the fifth race. He led throughout, which marked his second success here, but at the end was doing his best to score by less than a length. Cut Bush was rapidly overhauling the winner at the end, after finishing fast and gamely during the last quarter. Jockey Shropshire, who had the mount on the latter, permitted him to drop too far out of contention during the first half mile. Grass Maid followed in closest pursuit of the winner to the stretch and tired during the last sixteenth, but waj easily best of the others. Grapestone raced prominently for the first three-quarters, then tired badly, as did Devil Girl, after having moved up into a contending position midway of the race. Taking command shortly after the start, Exultant was in front thereafter in the running of the second race. Beatrice Morse and Sky Flight fought it out through the stretch for second place honors, the former earning the verdict after carrying Sky Flight wide in the final eighth. After racing Golden Locks into defeat. Kin Folks I.ad enough in reserve to withstand Jibes bid in the stretch in the third race. Golden Locks saved third because Lena Wood was hemmed in next to the inner rail during the run home. Opening up an easy early lead, Jean Wengel never left the result in doubt during the running of the fourth race. The real contest came for second place, for which Zefine outstayed Peralta. Jockey C. Kinesland, who suffered a bad fall here yesterday while astride Deputy, regained consciousness today and from the hos-pistal this afternoon his condition was reported as fair. His skull was not fractured. He suffered concussion of the brain.
