[ LATONIA TURF NOTES f $ — $ LATONIA, Ky.. June 11. C. C. Van Meter has taken a call on the services of jockey A. Pascmiia for Saturdays renewal of the Enquirer Handicap. Uptown Lad, a two-year-old in the E. B. McLean stable, Monday underwent an operation for throat trouble. War Eagle, another in the same stable, which had like medical treatment several weeks ago, is back in regular training. Jockey L. Pichon, who suffered a number of cuts and bruises in his hard fall from Nellie Lyons in the opening race Monday, was unable to resume riding today, but is hopeful of being physically fit to accept mounts within a day or two. Rhinock, the Parkview stables- likely starter in the Enquirer Handicap Saturday, this morning figured in one of the outstanding trials of the season, when he worked a mile and an eighth in 1 :53%. He was under mild pressure and the fractionals for his move over the fast track were: :24%, :49. 1:14%, and 1 :40y5. T. L. Pierce was an arrival from Lexington, where he shipped five two-year-olds. Three of the youngsters are the property of Mrs. C. Ragan of New York, and the others are owned by A. H. Dressel of Chicago. F. M. Taylor brought Wild Denise and Eskimo, the property of the Coldstream stud, from Lexington. The former filled an engagement today, while the latter is a scheduled starter Wednesday. Jockey G. Collins came from Bainbridge Park and will ride as a freelance. Apprentice Russell was removed to a Cincinnati hospital, where he will undergo an operation for an ear ailment.
