RIDES THREE WINNERS - ♦ Shropshire in Limelight at Washington Park Course. Listo Accounts for Feature Race and Third Consecutive Victory — Friar Bell Surprises. ♦ HOME WOOD, III.. June 19.— The La Brae Stables Listo continued his winning ways at Washington Park, and scored his third successive victory when he was home a handy winner of the Greenwood Purse, which served as the best offering on the card. Princess Edith, making her local debut, finished in second place, and Willa, favorite, finished third. The winner was ridden by Shropshire, who starred during the afternoon by piloting two other winners, including the W. R. Coe representative Friar Bell, an outsider. There was little necessity for a display of riding skill astride Listo. which raced as if much the best of the five others that comprised the field. Shropshire kept Listo in a prominent position in the wake of Christie Flanagan and Willa in the first half mile and when the leaders tired he sent his mount up and, disposing of Princess Edith, which had made a strong challenge, drew nway in the last eighth to win with much in reserve. Princess Edith was much better than the others and had second place secure after being straightened in the stretch. There was considerable betting attention for Judge Hay and he promised for a period, but when Mc-Dermott took him back on the first turn, he seemed to be off stride thereafter and then raced the last eighth in awkward style. Lad Buyer had dwelt slightly at the post, resulting in a tardy beginning, but she showed fine speed to wear down Friar Bell in the first three-eighths, but in the final drive she began tiring and just lasted to take second place from Lahor. IDEAL RACING CONDITIONS. Ideal weather and improved track conditions caused an increase in attendance and also contributed to a better brand of sport than has been on tap this week. In the Windsor Purse, which brought to the post seven youngsters, there was a distinctive eastern color, when W. R. Coes Friar Bell beat home Willis Sharpe Kilmers representative Lady Buyer, with the Ran-cocas Stables Lahor in third place. Lady Buyer was backed to the exclusion of the others, with the Coe filly Friar Bell an outsider. Friar Bell, showing an improved performance over her preceding start, raced with Lady Buyer from the start and proved the gamer by drawing away in the last eighth to win handily. Rose OXeill graduated from the maiden ranks in the first race, with a runaway victory over a dozen other juveniles that started over the five-eighths route. She displayed fine speed from the start, and wearing down Easter Boy with ease before the first quarter, won as her rider pleased. Easter Boy showed good speed and it enabled him to race into second place without being seriously menaced. Saluta. coming fast at the end, scored third place from Calcit and Handi worker. The latter was the favorite, but raced wide from the start and closed an immense gap when urged hard towards the end. PEABODY COLORS TO FORK. Stuyvesant Feabody won a purse when his Bogan got home in advance of Bruno, the favorite, in the second race, attracting a dozen starters. Bogan displayed the most speed after the first quarter and, shaking off Bruno when the latter challenged in the stretch, came away to an easy victory. Bruno had to be roused hard near the end to outstay George Stack. The latter saved much ground after reaching the stretch, and finished determinedly. Sandy Man was another that showed a good effort. There was considerable support for Winifred in the race, but a slow beginning caused her to race far out of it throughout. A few inches made the difference in »he Pcabody stable scoring a double during the afternoon, llurstland failed by a close margin in the third race and was led home by Moderation. Captain J. S. was the pronounced favorite here and was probably much the best and would have won with good riding. L. Jones, who had the mount, however, exhausted him in the first half mile in his effort to dispose of Chicleight. The latter set a terrific pace with Captain J. S. forcing him to a greater effort, but Chicleight was done when reaching the stretch and Captain J. S. appeared a certain winner, but the early effort told on him and he gave way to the final leaders twenty yards from the finish. He landed in third place, but would have been beaten out for that position in a few strides more. Entry blanks are also being distributed for th» Latonia Championship Stakes.
