CHANCELLOR DISAPPOINTS ♦ Finishes Second to Morocco in Fairmount Park Feature. ♦ English-Bred Colt Proves Much the Best la Clayton Purse — Tannery Win* Another Kaee. ♦ ■ COLLINSVILLE, III.. June 19.— Morocco, the four-year-old son of Tangiers — Iaurinn. which races for Ed McCuan, carried his owners colors to victory in the running of MM Clayton Purse, feature offering arranged by the Fairmount Jockey Club at Fairmount Park this afternoon. The English-bred colt, well ridden by jockey Knight, vanquished a small band of good horses and took into camp the Audley Farms recent winner Chancellor, which raced to second place, while Mrs. R. Pollards racer Uluniu. tiring badly, was a poor third. Atoi ami Full Speed were far back, there being only five starters. Chancellor was concedetl the best chance by the public and the players chose him as favorite. He ruled a prohibitive choice and prevailed at odds-on figures. Uluniu, ridden by Parmelee, set the early pace in a determined manner for the firot three-eiuarters, closely followed by Chancellor. Atoi and Morocco, while Full Speed was in last place, seemingly outclassed. Morocco was under restraint in a close up position. Upon entering the stretch Uluniu spread out for the final drive and began to draw away. However, his move was short lived, for when Chancellor loomed up on the outside with a strong challenge Uluniu began tiring and Chancellor took command. It appeared that Chancellor would hold sway to the finish, but in the final eighth Morocco came fast on the outside and, catching Chancellor in the last fifty yards, outfin-ished him in a hard drive. SECONDARY ATTRACTION. As a secondary attraction there was the Trial Purse, which served as a preliminary for the Jefferson Hotel Stakes, the ,000 added stake event for masculine juveniles to be decided at Fairmount Park Saturday. In this race Tannery, the crack colt from the stab.e of E. F. Prichard, made another appearance and again performed in a sparkling manner to be returned an easy winner at the end cf five and a half furlongs. Tannery was three lengths in front of C. W. Moores McEvely. The latter proved second best and easily vanquished the Keeneland Studs Silver Cord for second place. Silver Cord was third. There was two other starters, but this pair was badly outrun all the way. Tannery prevailed an overwhelming favorite at odds-on and the good son of Ballot and Blemished, ridden by jockey R. Finnerty, never left the result in doubt after the start. In the first eighth McEvely outran Tannery slightly, but Tannery forced a terrific pace and, reaching the first quarter, gradually headed and passed McEvely into the lead, which he eas.Iy retained thereafter to the finish. Entering the stretch Tannery assumed a clear lead over his rivals and was going easily, while McEvely and Silver Cord were under punisliment trying in vain to keep up with the Prichard racer. In the daily race for maiden two-year-olds the Audley Parms filly Associate vanquished the large band of starters over five and a half furlongs. Well ridden by jockey R. Russell, Associate gained rapidly from a slow beginning and, racing up the back stretch with great speed, reached the leaders before they had negotiated the far turn. Going to the outside at this juncture, Associate was hustled past Emeryville and Annama-tion into the lead and she continued to set the pace thereafter to the finish. Emeryville raced Annamation into submission in the str"etch and held second place and was only a neck back of the winner as they completed a hard final drive with Associate just lasting to win. Panivana dropped far back after the start and was outpaced to the final turn, then came with a tremendous rush on the outside, closing an immense gap to get up in time to take third place. Associate was favorite over Emeryville by a slight margin. HASTY GIltL MAKES GOOD. A limit field of the ordinary platers started in the second race, a three-quarters affair, and the well-backed Hasty Girl made good with a victory scored at the expense of Chris Paschen. which landed in second place. Chris Paschen got home safety in advance of Vindication, the latter one of the field horses. Chris Paschen was the favorite. Red Robe, one of the well-backed starters, suffered repeated interference on the inside, after a poor beginning, and his rider was forced to take up repeatedly when being shut off next to the rail. Hasty Girl began well and, after being outrun for the first quarter by Forluck. came fast on the outside of the latter and, after a brief drive, took the lead and held the race safe to the end. It was also a lowly band of platers which made up the field in the third race, for which there were twelve starters. The overlooked Glee, ridden by V. Wallis, furnished a mild surprise in turning up the winner over the extreme outsider. Cockney, which landed in second place, while Uncle Boot was the one to account for third place. The finish was of the blanket variety and only necks separated the first three. Glee, after taking the lead from Play Hour and Clay Pigeon passing the far turn, then diew away and appeared an easy winner entering the stretch. She tired rapidly in the run home, however, and the suddenly improved Cockney loomed up from the rear wtih a strong final challenge, which resulted in him wearing down Glee rapidly, and it was only by a margin of a neck that Cockney failed to overtake the winner as they finished. Uncle Boot also came with a belated rush, and at the finish was only a neck back of Cockney on the outside, and finished faster than the first two.
