BLACK WATCHS EASY SCORE Easily Accounts for Spinalong, Feature Offering; at Jamaica. "Weather -Conditions Considerably Improved "and Deflected in Goodly Sized Crowd Out for Second Days Sport. JAMAICA. N. Y.. April 22. Black Watch, a Florida performer through the winter months, was an easy winner of the Spinalohg, todays feature offering at Jamaica, Bearing the silks of W. E. Martin, the son of St James had no trouble taking the measure of Justinian, from the Greentree Stable, with Frank E. Browns Bud Broom beating Tetrar-chal, a Preakness eligible in the Howe stable, for the third award. It was a three-quarters sprint that attracted only six. After the wintry weather for the opening of the Jamaica meeting much more pleasant conditions prevailed today and, while the skies were overcast, the weather was milder and much more pleasant for the big crowd which was out for the sport. In the Spinalong little time was losU at the barrier and the start was a good one, with Holiday first to show his head in front, but he soon gave way to Black Watch. Bud Broom had left in good position and Tetrarchal, when in the first flight, moved up rapidly on the outside until he was lapped on Black Watch and racing fast. Bud Broom raced at the heels of the Howe stable colt and then came Holiday, which had been crowded back slightly. In the run through the back stretch it appeared that Tetrarchal could wrest the lead from Black Watch at the first asking, but the seasoned campaigner held to his lead and eventually it was Tetrarchal that tired. But this was not until well into the stretch. There Black Wach drew away readily until he was two lengths clear. Holiday had moved up until he was lapped on Tetrarchal and Justinian was improving his position. Through the final eighth Black Watch easily increased his lead until he had four lengths to spare at the end. Justinian, in a Continued on twenty-second page. Maiden juveniles of the plater variety met in the opening dash and it brought victory to Mrs. J. H. Buschers Zinn, when he led home Intractable, from the Mendham Stable, with E. F. Sanfords One Grand just saving third from John N. Hopkinsons Saki. One Grand was more alert than the others leaving the barrier, but his advantage, was a slight one and Intractable was soon alongside and then was taking up the pacemaking. One Grand held to second place when the headstrong colt went to the front, while at the same time Zinn moved up resolutely on the outside. Intractable was still showing the way as he rounded into the short stretch, but by that time Zinn had circled "around and was right with the pace, with One Grand doing his best to hold his "position, while Sister Adele loomed up dangerously and a furlong out she was right with the first two. In the final furlong both Sister Adele and Intractable faltered, while Zinn, under a powerful ride by Mack Garner, drew away to be winner by a length arid a half. Intractable had stumbled slightly in the final drive, but he saved second place by two lengths, with One Grand just a head before Saki, which closed with a rush,- while Sister Adele collapsed badly in the final pinch. Deploy, a 3-year-old son of Underfire and Broadcast, which had not been to the races since last August, was an easy winner over the maidens that were brought together for the six furlongs of the second race. He raced for Gifford A. Cochran and "Bill" Kel-say only had to permit him to gallop along in front from the rise of the barrier. At the end he was four lengths clear, while Thomas Calcinas Brown Trap was an easy second over Tomany Baw from the Greentree Stable, with Lineup following in fourth place. Trainer John Zoeller stated that he had turned the three-year-old St. Jim out at Lex-inton, Ky. He will pick the colt up the latter part of August for fall training and racing. a
