McCLURE PURSE TO LANCER j Tarn Racer Defeats Lassa in Wheeling Race Sureway Again a Winner. . WHEELING. W. Va., April 22". A. G. Tarns Lancer continued his improvement in todays racing, and accounted for the McClure Hotel Purse, one of the best races on the card. Lancer was followed closely in the mile and a sixteenth journey by Lassa, a recent winner, which picked up several pounds and carried the top of 117, and by H. C. Rumages Lactarius. Although the favorite Domineer was beaten in the first race, the winner turned up in Dpdie Leighton, a very warmly supported second choice. With A. Colvin up, she was kept right behind the early leader and took the lead entering the stretch and was never in difficulty. The early leader was Choir Invisible, which was almost totally neglected in the betting. Choir Invisible was beaten for the place by only a head by Ormogirl. but held third place over the fast closing Blazoner by a similar small margin. Winsome, a field horse, won the second race and Doc JC, also in the field, was second over Chantry, the trio finishing very close together. There was no outstanding favorite in this race, but Sunolin, Betty Bowman and A. B. Bensinger were well played. Neither was ever close. Sureway won another for W. F. Knebel-kamp in the third.- He was much the best and near the. end was drawing away from Tomboy, "which had early speed but tired though he was good enough to beat out Doc Conner.
