Another Ashland Oaks, the thirty-seventh, is to he run here today, and the field of fillies that will engage seems to be quite up to the standard of this early fixture for three-year-old fillies. It was in this event last year that Rose of Sharon got her real start on a career that was as brilliant, while it lasted, as that of any filly of recent years. Rose of Sharon went on to win the other Oaks the Kentucky, Illinois and Latonia and had established herself as the real queen of the turf when she died. The most conspicuous in todays field is H. P. Headleys Supremus filly Alci-biades, a prominent candidate for the Preakness Stakes and probably the most prominent filly left in the Kentucky Derby list of eligibles. Alcibiades is scheduled to make her first start as a thrcc-year-old in this race. As she is regarded fit and ready, she -will probably go to the post favorite. Another Derby nominee entered in todays Oaks is Niato of the H. P. Whitney stable, which has been showing up well in her spring training. Patricia Ann and Manta are recent winners that are slated to go. Supryse, another Supremus filly, which, racing in the colors of Mrs. E. L. Svvikard, attracted considerable attention early last year, is a probable starter. The stake features a program of eight races, several others of which assure some of the best sport of the meeting.
