PUBLIC CHOICES WIN Favorites Have Successful Day at Lexington Course. Patricia Ann Triumphs in Mundys Landing Purse Bar Sinister Scores in First. LEXINGTON, Ky., May 2. This afternoons next to final program of the fifteen days meeting of the Kentucky Association, was productive of much interesting and form-ful sport and when J. S. Wallaces home-bred Patricia Ann triumphed in the Mundys Landing Purse, for three-year-olds, it marked the fourth triumph for the favorite in five races. Her success was among the most popular of the afternoon and, running fast to lead home such others of her age as Honey Locust, Stop Gap, Silver Cord and three others, left little doubt of her quality. A length back of the nimble daughter of Whiskaway and Vision, . Honey Locust nosed out Stop Gap for second place and the latter had no more of a margin in earning third over Silver Cord. An extremely big loss of ground, particularly during the first three-eighths of the short futurity course, added much to the winners assignment, but she raced gamely under a good ride by McCrossen and taking the lead on the stretch turn, retained it thereafter. Entering the final eighth she had a margin of two lengths over Silver Cord, which she supplanted in the lead on the stretch turn, but the latter and the even more fast finishing Honey Locust, and Stop Gap, gradually gained on her during the subsequent drive to the finish. The bristling finish for second and third places added a thrilling incident. The winner ran the distance in 1 :10Ya and the victory was her second in three starts during this, her initial season to race. 3IID-SU3I3IElt WEATHER. Mid "summer weather was the order- and the attendance included quite a few visitors for the week-end closing of the local spring season. Edward Haughton saddled his seventh winner during the meeting from among Mrs. Payne Whitneys Greentree Stable horses, when Bar Sinister, a maiden three-year-old filly, daughter of Upset and Royal Dainty, accounted for the opening race. She won easily under a good ride by L. Jones, and her success marked the third in consecutive races for her owners colors, victorious in the sixtli and seventh races Thursday. Anna Beall raced to second place, while Night Cry took third in a close finish with Ripfield. Jones kept the winner in near pursuit of the pacemaker, Kate Geary, during the first half mile, then sent her to the front after reaching the sti-etch and she pulled away to win by one and one-half lengths from Anna Beall, which followed that position all during the final three-sixteenths. The Wampus, J. W. Marrs good maiden son of Omar Khayyam and Clare, finished second for the third time in as many starts when J N. Camdens Leros, favored by racing luck, led him to the finish of the four and one-half furlongs in the second race. The Wampus, coupled with Blast, and held at less than 2 to 5, had little chance after being trapped in a jam shortly after the start, where Mark Anthony crossed over sharply from the outside. Leros missed the interference and, racing into a long lead, held sway easily as the Wampus managed to work his way into second place after entering the stretch, where he passed the tiring Thistle Vic and easily held Mark Anthony safe. The victor, a son of Nocturnal and Parley, was ridden by P. Neal. WHISP IMPRESSIVELY. Whisp, R. S. Clarks son of Whiskaway and Gypsy Blair, which exhibited no little promise before contracting a skin infection shortly after his arrival at Arlington Park last July, signaled his return to competition when he easily defeated Dick OHara. Star Play and three other three-year-olds in the Cynthiana Purse, or third race. Under a confident ride by Willie Garner, who quite naturally was not expected to press the colt in his first effort in ten months, he approached the finish of the futurity distance well in hand and a length in the, van of Dick OHara, which gave way to the victor after leading to the stretcli. Almost two lengths back. Star, Play led Henriette Hardies by some five lengths, and the two others were not far back of the Gardner filly. The winner was installed the favorite. H. C. Hatchs Blackberry accounted for the fourth race by defeating Bogan, Thistle Ari- .Coutiuuetl on thirteenth page. PUBLIC CHOICES WIN Continued from first page. ous and two others. The finish Avas a driving one in Avhich the AVinner led Bogan by a neck and the latter had but a nose o-er Thistle Arious. Light Aveight aided the winner, Avhich apprentice Riley rated along in nearest pursuit of the pacemaker, Bogan, in the first mile and, after driving her to the front, she could not pull away, but stuck it out gamely in the final drive, during Avhich Thistle Arious finished fastest of the trio. On Sunday Ed OConnell is shipping the Knebelkamp and Morris string of fourteen to Churchill Downs. At that point OConnell Avill take over the training of the two-year-old filly Lila Stackpole, Avhich Johnny Jones has been conditioning for Knebelkamp and Morris. The stable includes the crack Bill Morris, one of the outstanding candidates for the Bashford Manor Stakes. C. C. Van Meter this morning took over to train for Morris Carruthers the horses Aye Ready and Nurse Maid, and saddled the former for the third race today.
