HIGH FOOT IN DERBY WORK Under Pressure Over One Mile and an Eighth. Runs Distance In 1:57 Kilkerry Outruns Broadway Limited Over Same Route Track Good. - LOUISVILLE. Ky.. May 2. High Foot, the three-year-old son of Prince Pal Belle Fair, owned by the Valley Lake Stable, was the last of the prominent Derby candidates at Churchill Downs to come out on the track for a workout of one mile and an eighth, which distance he ran in 1:57. Jockey Carl Meyer, who will have the mount on him in the Derby, was in the saddle and started him at the eighth post in the stretch. Going the first quarter in :24, three-eighths in :36, half in :48, five furlongs in 1:01, the-colt was joined by Herendeen and the pair raced to the mile post in 1:42. Then Herendeen was eased back and the colt continued his journey alone. Trainer Partridge did just what he expected to do with the colt, tired him out. as he was under pressure in the last quarter mile. He pulled up in good condition and will be benefited by this work. The course was in excellent shape this morning, the going being fast and the soil less cuppy than in some time. Broadway Limited and Kilkerry, the Three Ds Derby candidates, worked together over one mile and an eighth in 1:57. Kilkerry was the best of the pair this morning, going easily, while Broadway Limited was driving. The "fractional time for the mile was :25, :49. 1:15, 1:43. Trainer Vestal has in this pair two that seem to improve with every workout. PLAYTIME IMPRESSES. Some good moves were made by the Derby candidate Playtime, from the Southland Stable, which went the Derby route in 2 :11 in company with Southland Pal, for the first five furlongs. The fractional time was :24, :49, 1:16, 1:43. 1:57 for the first mile and one-eighth. He wore blinkers and was under pressure at the finish. Trainer Letellier seems to favor this colt more than All Upset for his Derby candidate. Misstep, which is eligible for the Clark and Grainer Handicaps, and Maudlin, the Derby candidate from the Le Mar Stock Farm Stable, turned in splendid moves for three-quarters of a mile when they were timed in :35, :47, 1:14. All Upset, another of the Southland Stables Derby candidates, was worked with blinkers on and in company with Big Sandy and The Southerner went one mile in :25, :504s, 1:17, 1:4C. Dark Entry, one of the H. P. Headley Derby eligibles. was on the track this morning for a. work for the first time since he arrived here from Wheeling, after winning the Golden Jubilee Purse, and turned in six furlongs in :2iy5. :49V, 1:15. easily. Richard McDonnell, A. IE. Barretts Derby candidate, was given a good workout by trainer Hayward, who sent him his first quarter in :24, :49, 1:16, 1:31 for seven furlongs. Billy Champ, the Warm Stables Derby prospect, was cantered with The Nut and Cady Hill, handicap candidates, three furlongs in :41. BLACKWOOD IN FORM. Blackwood, candidate of Mrs. E. Denemark for the Clark Handicap, was sent a half mile by R. T. Watts, his trainer, in :49, driving. Betty Barrett, an Oaks candidate from the barn of A. E. Barrett, went a handy six furlongs in :49, 1:15. Rich Widow, the Oaks filly in the stable of J. W. Parrish, was sent three-eighths in :3S. Tishybo, Mrs. E. Denemarks Oaks candidate, was sent a mile in 1 :50, and Rogers Caldwells handicap mare, Lady Broadcast, went five furlongs in 1:02. H. W. Miller of Indianapolis, one-time owner of Stampdale, bought of C. E. Durnell a bay colt named Battle Sweep, by Sweep Ypres II., and Charlotte H., chestnut filly by Campfire Hurry Home. C. H. Trotter brought back the four horses he took to Lexington to race. Chancellor, Rolling Sea, Spectacular and Supreme Sweet, the latter being a winner of a purse at the Kentucky Association track. J. C. Milam arrived from Lexington with the three-year-old filly Miss Alabama, by Sir Martin Anna M. Humphrey, her half-brother, Dixie King, chestnut colt by Friar Rock Anna M. Humphrey, and a chestnut colt by Sun Pal Castle Douglas. Stalls were assigned his horses at Churchill Downs.
