WASHINGTON PARK NOTES | • ® HOMEWOOD, 111., May 22. Each passing hour sees more horses unloaded at Homewood, some of them destined for Washington Park, with the overflow going to Lincoln Fields, Crete, 111. Those stabled at the latter course will be vanned on the days they race at Washington Park. By Sunday every stall at Washington Park will be filled, save about twenty which have been reserved for the equine elite which will be here to perform in the 0,000 added American Derby, to be decided June 20. It is expected there will be a large representative field for the Washington Park Handicap, ,000 added, over six furlongs, for three-year-olds and over, which features Mondays inaugural program. Practically all of the better horses of the ninety-four eligibles are already on the ground and ready for racing. E. A. Weidekamp, who is in charge of the pari-mutuels at Washington Park, made his first Chicago appearance following his trip to London. Mr. Weidekamp, who is commander-in-chief of around 350 mutuel employes at Washington Park, observed: "This season will mark a new era in racing popularity in Chicago." Lieut. Edward J. Kelly, whose rank at Washington Park is captain of police, is devoting his time instructing his force of 125 men. He announced that he would have ten picked detectives from the Chicago department. The chief of police of Hazel Crest, he said, is to direct a night force of twenty-five guards. The chief duties of these men will be to protect the racers. This season extra precaution will be taken concerning their safety. William Dennes, auditor, instructed the ticket sellers and discussed arrangements for box and seat reservations for the American Derby, June 20. He announced that this feature was really in effect now in response to applications coming through the mail. Mr. Dennes stated that he expects this sale tQ surpass by far that of previous years, this assertion being based on the early demand. Washington Park racing will present an extraordinary array of two-year-olds at the approaching meeting. In no other season has the list of nominations for racers of this type commanded such heavy representation. The Debutante Stakes attracted 122 entries, the Thomas Curran Memorial drew 160.
