Much interest was evidenced in the workouts of four of the candidates in preparation for the Ohio State Derby between the races Thursday afternoon. The Mongol went one mile in 1:42%. the quarters being :26-3, :50S and 1:16-5, after the first. Following the fourth race Boys Howdy galloped in :24-5, :48-5, 1:14 and the mile in 1:41%. Lightning Bolt ran in :24, :48%, 1:13% and the mile in 1:41%. Insco, under restraint throughout, galloped in :24, :48-5, l:14aj and the mile in 1:42%. Col. Robert S. Eddy. Jr., steward at Bain-bridge and general manager of Fairmount and Jefferson Park, arrived from Springfield. 111., where he went in the interest the tax reduction of Fairmount Park. C. M. Feltner was an arrival today with four head from Baltimore. Jockey J. Pryce accompanied the stable. Melmor unseated jockey J. Cavens while at the post for the seventh race Thursday and the horse galloped off riderless for five furlongs before being captured. Cavens escaped unhurt.
