CHURCHILL DOWNS MEETING * Total of 78,155 Distributed During Nineteen Days of Racing. • Greentree Stable Largest Winner Among Owners — Twenty Grand Tops Horses and E. James Carries Off Riding Honors. » The Greentree Stable, chiefly because of Twenty Grands notable victory in the Kentucky Derby, was the largest winner during the recent Churchill Downs meeting, which began on May 2 and ended May 23. During the nineteen days of racing, 133 races were run and 78,155 was distributed in stakes and purses, the average daily distribution amounting to 4,639. Other substantial winners among the owners included the C. V. Whitney stable, Audley Farm Stable, C. Nuckols and H. M. Woolf. The big feature of the meeting was naturally the Kentucky Derby, and the immense crowd present at Churchill Downs on Saturday, May 16, saw one of the greatest races in the history of Americas most famous classic. Twenty Grand not only carried off the coveted prize, but smashed Old Rosebuds long standing Derby record for a mile and a quarter by running the distance in 2:01%. This glorious victory of Twenty Grands likewise placed the Greentree Stable star at the top of the money winners of the meeting. Bargello, Cousin Jo and Gallant Knight were among others which figured prominently from the standpoint of money won. E. James and C. E. Allen finished first and second for the riding honors, the former with fifteen and the latter with fourteen winners. D. Meade and M. Rose tied for third place, each with twelve winners to his credit. Mose Goldblatt headed the trainers* list with seven winners, W. W. Taylor with six and D. E. Stewart with five being his closest rivals for the distinction of saddling the largest number of winners.
