LIST EIGHT STAKE EVENTS 1 For Agua Caliente Summer Meeting I of Fifty -Seven Days Opening on July Fourth. AGUA CALIENTE, Mexico, May 26.— The second summer meeting of the Agua Caliente Jockey Club, which will run for fifty-seven days, starting July 4 and closing ; Labor Day, will witness the running of . eight stakes, according to an announcement from president James N. Crofton. Topped J by the first running of the ,000 Bowman , Handicap, which is to take the place of ■ the Presidents Cup, the fixtures carry an 1 added money value of 6,000. In addition 1 there will be numerous overnight handicaps . and special feature races. The total money distribution during the meeting in purses, , stakes and for special events will be approximately . a quarter of a million dollars. The eight stake events, with the dates 1 upon which they will be decided, distances i and added money value are as follows: Independence . Handicap, July 4. 1 1-16 miles, ,000; Coronado Claiming Stakes, July 5, 1 1 mile. ,000; Zaragoza Claiming Stakes, , July 26, 3-4 mile, ,500; Fleetfoot Handicap, August 9, 3-4 mile, ,500; Agua Caliente , Claiming Stakes, August 16, 1 1-16 miles, ,500; Midsummer Derby, August 23, 1 1-16 • miles, ,000; Juvenile Handicap, September . 6, 3-4 mile, ,500; Bowman Handicap, September 7, 1 1-8 miles, ,000. All of these, with the exception of the . Independence Handicap and the Bowman Handicap, are renewals from the initial running last summer. The Independence 1 Handicap, which was run as an overnight feature last summer, has been added as a stake fixture, and the Owners and Labor 1 Day Handicaps of last year have been dropped. The total added money value, however, remains the same. Closing dates for all of the stakes are a week in advance of the running, with the exception of the 1 Independence Handicap and Coronado Claiming Stakes, to be run on July 4 and 5, respectively, which will be closed on July 2. The stakes are all for three-year-olds and upward, with the exception of the Midsummer Derby, which is, of course, for three-year-olds, and the Juvenile Handicap, in which two-year-olds will fight it out over the six furlongs route. Seven races will be run daily, consisting of three with purses of 00; three of 00, and a special feature. On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays there will be eight to ten events on the program.
