I Lagrange Wears Down Meclona In Stretch to Earn Purse in Sixth Race — Track Improving. 1 CLEVELAND, Ohio, May 26.— Lucky Dan J carried the colors of Mrs. A. Luzader to victory in the Shaker Heights Purse, the fifth race, which served as the principal attraction at Bainbridge Park this afternoon. T. Flippens Morsnuff raced to second place, and the Joliet Stables Blue Law secured the minor award from Noble Sir, which had previously earned brackets at this meeting. Morsnuff set the pace, as usual, with Ronald Grey in closest pursuit until the far " turn was reached. At this point Lucky Dan moved up and Ronald Grey dropped back | beaten. Continuing gamely in the stretch, Lucky Dan overhauled Morsnuff at the seventy yard post, and, finishing fast, drew . clear in the last few strides. Morsnuff had * little opposition for second. After suffering serious interference on the far turn, Blue Law showed a brilliant burst of speed, easily disposing of the others, and was a fast finishing third. The racing was staged under favorable conditions, and a big crowd witnessed the sport. The track had improved wonderfully fast under bright skies and should be at its i best by tomorrow. The fields were large and ] evenly matched, and provided an excellent days sport. Princess Dare led into the stretch in the fourth race, with Bonaire in closest pursuit. When straightened out Icarus moved up on ! the outside of the pair, and the trio staged , bitter duel in the final furlong. Icarus proved the gamest and won going away by length. Bonaire eventually headed the I pace-maker in the final strides by a short head for the second award. ; After following the pace of Meclona closely 1 until midway of the stretch in the sixth I race, Lagrange wore the leader down and -got up in the last few yards to beat the Ireland colorbearer in a drive. Double O ] was always in closest pursuit of the leader, 1 but at the end was hard pressed to save : third from the fast finishing Bosky. One of the best finishes of the meeting developed with the running of the opening • race when the three placed horses reached the finish so closely lapped that the result was in doubt until the official placing was displayed. Venarock led for the entire dis- tance, but barely lasted to win by the shortest of margins. In the stretch Baffling Star I finished next to the inner rail, while Mrs. Foster challenged on the outside. She secured second place, finished fastest of all, and would have won in another stride. Racing closely bunched. Unusual. Little Toots and Patsy H. fought for the leadership to the stretch in the second race. When straightened out for the run home Little Toots drew away into a clear lead, and Netie Pebbles then challenged. Continuing gamely, Netie Pebbles gradually wore down Little Toots and got up in the last few yards. Fig Leaf raced into third place when Unusual quit badly in the last furlong: Miss Kiluna moved up on the outside of Thalo and Bunting Lad entering the stretch in the third, and, wresting the lead from Bunting Lad a furlong out, held the race safe to the end. Nell Kuhlman came fast to be second. She raced extremely wide, finishing next to the judges stand on the outside, but for which she might have won. Bunting Lad saved third as Thalo quit badly. While en route to the post for this race, Scotland Blue suffered a severely cut leg when she got into a mixup with Nell Kuhlman and the outriders pony. This caused the withdrawal of Otto Berz filly. ♦
