I ; LATONIA STRIP AT BEST Training Continues Under Favorable Conditions — Large Field for Clipsetta Stakes. LATONIA, Ky., June 5. — Despite overcast skies which forced trainers to call on their charges at early hours, the rain did not fall and the Latonia course was again at its best for the works of a great number of horses which are quartered here awaiting the opening of the thirty-one-day meeting on Saturday, June 27. The only stake candidate to be called on for a trial was Furst and Bauers Castle Cliff, which breezed a half in :52. Under the guidance of Dale Hardy the son of Polymelian and Chiffon, which is being prepared for the Cincinnati Trophy, broke from the half-mile ground and clicked off the opening quarter in :26 under strong restraint. "He looks like the best colt I ever trained and if he doesnt turn out to be, he will fool me," was the parting remark of the Bourbon County horseman. Other stakes candidates on the track were the Southland Stables Playtime, W. E. Smiths Wise Talk and W. D. Covingtons Sidestep. They were called on for only turns of the course, and will be expected to breeze in the next several days.
