f LATONIA TURF NOTES ? 4, . $ LATONIA, Ky., June 6. All Upset, which with Playtime were the 1930 Kentucky Derby hopes of Charles Bacharach, breezed a half mile in :53 this morning. "Bob" Saxton, turf editor of the Cincinnati 1 Enquirer, will be at Washington Park to I cover the American Derby for his paper. T. L. Pierce returned from Lexington, where he inspected the breeding stock of the Valley Lake Stable as well as to arrange • for the breaking of thirty yearlings. Pierce • has twelve horses in training here, but finds I time to journey back and forth to the blue l grass city to supervise the improvement to ■ his training barn. He expects to take up I the thirty yearlings, a majority the property of L. C. Lang, owner of the Elmtree Stable and Buffalo patron, July 1. Six of the twelve horses Hammel has at Lexington for Howard Oots and others will be shipped to Latonia to be turned over I to Howard Wells, who is now campaigning at Washington Park. A majority are two-year-olds, and were left there when they "bucked" prior to the opening of the Lexington meeting. Sun Flag, the sire which will stand at the Valley Lake Farm of R. J. and P. A. Nash, which the Chicagoans purchased from the , Gifford Cochran estate, has practically completed his bookings for the season. Several of his get are now quartered at Latonia and resemble their sire, both in color and conformation. In addition to the three-year-old, Eagle Bird, which has now returned to training, A. W. Booker has the two-year-old Bellai Nepoli and Good Tibe Boy for P. Youkilis, a Cincinnati patron. Guy Lunsford, who made the engagements of R. Fischer at the Lexington and Churchill Downs meetings, will serve in the same capacity for apprentice Gene Sullivan during the Latonia meeting. Jockey B. Hampton, who did not apply for a license last year, due to illness, is now in the employ of H. Van Elliott, and will make application for a license for the Latonia meeting. Polk Laffoon, president of the Latonia Jockey Club, will head a party of friends leaving Covington for Chicago for the American Derby at Washington Park. Henry Forrest, trainer of the J. B. Respess horses, was forced to let up on Grand Champion and several more of the horses, and Forrest does not expect to have the son of Royal II. and Bonnie Crest ready for his Cincinnati Trophy engagement. After going slightly amiss during the Churchill Downs meeting, R. T. Runnsells has High Storm back in training, and the plater reeled off five furlongs in 1:06. Charles Hufnagle, who rode for the late Al Kirby and is now connected with the jockey room, arrived here after spending several days at Washington Park. Henry Forrest, trainer of the Respess horses, reported that the several horses which have been coughing are now well on their way to recovery.
