TORONTO RACING AT END Dufferin Park Meeting Comes to a Close With Immense Crowd Present. TORONTO, Ont, June 20.— Torontos spring racing came to a close with the running of Saturdays program at Dufferin Park. There was a tremendous crowd on hand to bid farewell to the thoroughbreds until the opening at Thorncliffe next fall. The best race of the get-away day card was the fifth, at seven furlongs. It brought together the small field of five. W. J. Owens Meander was the winner in one of the most thrilling drives of the meeting, which saw him victorious in the final strides. Paddock, racing for M. Goodpaster, after leading until within the shadow of the finishing line, was second, while the outlander Medway, racing for J. E. Smallman, was third. Jockey C. Ralls rode his thirteenth winner of the meeting when he brought home The Doctor five lengths in advance of Len Sweep at the end of the seven furlongs of the third. Len Sweep cut out the early running, while Ralls was restraining the winner in closer attendance than usual. It was not until there remained but a quarter mile to be covered that The Doctor moved to the pacemaker. Ralls soon shook off Len Sweep, drew into a long lead and Ralls was looking back all through the stretch. Len Sweep, though unable to meet the challenge of the winner, easily saved second place from Izetta, while the latter had scant trouble in beating home Fair Folly for the minor award. The brown and blue silks of the London sportsman, J. E. Smallman, were seen in their second victory of the afternoon when Bushman defeated a good band of platers in the six and one-half furlongs that came fourth on the program. Incidentally it also afforded the opportunity for jockey F. Dougherty to complete a double, having scored with the other Smallman colorbearer JToki in the first.
