v — — -— — LIGHTNING BOLT GOES LAME HOMEWOOD, 111., June 20.— Misfortune again descended upon the western forces for the American Derby when Lightning Bolt developed a lameness that forced his withdrawal. The Whitney gelding is believed to have sustained a mild wrench while going through his final preparatory trial Friday and, while no fever nor filling developed about the strain, trainer Edward Haughton decided to take no chances with the Florida Derby winner. Barring more serious complications, he may fill his engagement in the Latonia Derby next Saturday. Lightning Bolt was the third prominent western candidate for todays race to meet with injury during the past week. Insco, first out and most seriously injured, sustained a fracture of the left fore ankle in a race a week ago, and Sweep All, foremost of the western three-year-olds, ruptured a tendon while filling his engagement in the Derby trial last Tuesday.
