| TWENTY GRAND MAY START IN LATONIA DERBY J LATONIA, Ky., June 20.— A rumor that could not be confirmed reached Latonia this morning that Twenty Grand would be sent here for his engagement in the Latonia Derby, this the first of the six stakes to be decided, is down for decision opening day, Saturday, June 27. The rumor, which is from one close to the Whitney family, is what was expected. No doubt Twenty Grand after his racing days will perform his stud services at Greentree Farm near Lexington, Ky. It would be a big star in his thoroughbred crown if he won the Latonia Derby and possibly set another record for the mile and one-half. After winning the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes, it would increase his stud value. Bad racing luck prevented the son of St. Germans from winning the triple crown, the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes. He met interference in the Preakness and had to be content with a second to Mate. In the event that Mrs. Payne Whitney decides to send Twenty Grand to Latonia it appears that Col. Matt J. Winn will be called on to donate the extra ,000, which goes to the horse that wins both the Kentucky and Latonia fixtures. It is not the extra ,000, but the honor for the horse which in the event he is shipped here attracts the fashionable Greentree Stable. Not since Sir Huon won the 1906 renewal has a Kentucky Derby winner moved on to the Milldale course to carry off the chief honors.
