LATONIA TRAINING MOVES • Swift Pal and All Hail, Derby Candidates, Seen in Action. ♦ Jimmy Moran and Bargello Prepare for Engagements in the Independence and Enquirer Handicaps. * LATONIA, Ky., June 20.— L. G. Theisens Swift Pal and C. Gregorys All Hail, candidates for the forty-ninth running of the Latonia Derby, the test of a mile and one-half, that features the opening of the thirty-one day meeting, which starts at the beautiful Milldale course Saturday, June 27, came in for the most attention this morning. Although Swift Pal was called on for a breeze over the mile, All Hail, which demonstrated in his recent work that he was capable of traversing a distance, came through with a show of his sprinting ability. All Hail was the first on the track and, with the veteran J. Moran in the saddle, he broke from the five-eighths post accompanied by On The Air the pair galloped a mile before they were called on for a display of speed. All Hail soon finding his speed, went to the stand in 1:00 after going the quarter in :25%, the three-eighths in :35% and the half in :47. "I wanted to see if it was possible for him to outbreak the speedy ones he will meet in the Derby," was owner and trainer Gregorys comment. "I intend setting him down for the mile and one-half test Wednesday and I believe he is hard to beat for that 5,000 prize," continued Gregory. W. G. Sparks, who is preparing Swift Pal for owner L. G. Theisen, gave the colt a gallop of a mile. He was timed the opening half mile in :49, the three-quarters in 1:15% and the seven-eighths in 1:29. Both Derby candidates went handily. Jimmy Moran, which Mose Goldblatt named for the Independence and Enquirer Handicaps, and Bargello, which is preparing for the same stakes for C. V. Whitney, were called on for breezes at seven-eighths. The former, which worked with Elysium, covered the distance in 1:28%, while the latter, which was accompanied by Skirl, another handicap eligible, was timed in 1:28. Jimmy Moran and Elysium were the first to make their appearances on the track and they ran the quarter in :25%, the half in :50 and the three-quarters in 1:165. After they returned to the barn Goldblatt c-lled on Bargello and Skirl. Breaking from, the seven-eighths post and working together they negotiated the quarter in :*25, the half in :50, and three-quarters in 1:16%. W. D. Covingtons Side Step, Cincinnati Trophy candidate, went an easy naif in :50, while W. E. Smiths Wise Talk, also named for the 0,000 added six furlongs dash, was timed the same distance in :50. T. L. Pierce, who is training Gorham Brothers Laila Wild for the renewal of the Latonia Oaks, sent the daughter of Big Blaze a handy seven-eighths in 1:29. She was attended by Joann Gorham and was timed the quarter in :24%, the half in :49% and the three-quarters in 1:15%.
