CLOSING OF DORVAL STAKES Nominations for the Derby and Juvenile Stakes Closed Saturday — | Plans for Great Meeting. t MONTREAL, Que., June 20.— Entries closed Saturday for the two stakes to be run at the Dorval meetin, which opens Wednesday. They are the Juvenile, a race for two-year-olds and the Derby, with a prize of ,000, Montreals richest turf event, to be staged on Saturday, June 27. A brilliant field is looked for in the Derby, as leading stables now racing here, as well as a number of New York, Bainbridge, Chicago and other campaigners, will ship their best three-year-olds to race for a prize that is of real consequence in these times of depression. Dorval is going ahead with plans for a big meeting. The meeting opens on St. Jean Baptiste Day, the French Canadian National holiday, which ensures a big crowd, has one Saturday and closes on Dominion Day, the very best of the dates. The contest for jockeys, run at Delorimier, proved so popular that the Dorval Jockey Club has decided to have another one at the Lake Shore track. A cup is being put up for the leading jockey of the week and besides the cup there will be a purse of 0 in gold for the winner. The scoring of points is based on three points for a win, two for a second and one for a third. The Juvenile, a five furlongs race, for the young racers, which have been furnishing such thrilling and consistent racing hereabouts, is looming up as one of the most interesting races of the season. It is quite possible the race will bring together Argien, winner of his last three starts; Dark Victory, which won the Kindergarten Stakes; Suntica, a Blue Eonnets winner and stable-mate of Dark Victory; Howee, which raced brilliantly earlier, but has been too heavily weighted recently, and a number of the better class Canadian-bred youngsters. Announcement is made that the horses of the Mount Royal Stable will remain over in Montreal to race throughout the meeting at Dorval, which means that not only will Bubbling Out and Marine be here, but the Vercheres-bred two-year-olds Kenora, Count Bruno and Foggy Dew will also be available for the race. It was announced that Johnny Turner had been appointed racing secretary for the meeting at the Mount Royal race course and that W. J. Morrison, E. W. Ferguson and Johnny Turner would be the placing judges.
