FINAL WEEK AT H0MEW00D Washington Park Meeting Comes to End Next Saturday — Peabody Memorial Closing Feature. This week marks the close of one of the most successful race meetings in the history of Washington Park. The 0,000 added Francis S. Peabody Memorial Handicap, at a mile and a quarter, to be run next Saturday, is the final feature. This event will bring out all of the best handicap horses in the West and many from the East. Among the prominent starters is Gallant Knight, which is at his best right now. The son of Bright Knight — Ethel Gray has this year broken one worlds record and smashed the track mark of one mile at Washington Park. Gallant Knight is a handsome brown colt with the lineage of a stayer. Also he possesses extreme speed, his sire was one of Englands best cup horses. His mother was an exceptionally fast mare. She was a dark roan in color, bred by John E. Madden, and a daughter of Hessian and Sweet Marjoram. Galalnt Knight will encounter contention aplenty in the Peabody Memorial. He will meet the veteran Mike Hall, hero of the 00,000 Agua Caliente Handicap. Coupled with Mike Hall probably will be Pigeon Hole, which has rounded into superb form. Then Sun Beau, star router, famous from coast to coast, is on the scene to settle scores with Mike Hall. It is barely possible that trainer Walter Taylor will employ in the Peabody Memorial the same riding orders he gave in the rich Agua Caliente feature when Sun Beau, which had been regarded as invincible, went down into defeat. Sun Beau, the Kilmer •hampion, was carried three-quarters in the Agua Caliente Handicap in around 1:11. When Mike Hall charged Sun Beau had nothing left. It is within the range of possibility that Gallant Knight may experience the same fate. Willard Macks chestnut gelding Satin Spar, may cut a big figure in the running of the Peabody Memorial. When the weights are announced watch for Satin Spars poundage. If it is not above 107 have a care, many turfmen say, for the candidate of the Bill Bee Stable. There are four fillies that may accept the issue of the race. If entered, their sex allowance will give the quartet a bona fide chance. These fillies are Manta, Snow-flake, Miss Bess and Lady Broadcast. William Ziegler, Jr.s Spinach is now at Arlington Park. He is ready for his Peabody Memorial engagement. Trainer Clyde Phillips declares the Sir Martin— Sweet Thyme colt is in top form for one of his best efforts. Spinach was a good colt last year. He won nearly 00,000 in stakes. He also was bred by the late John E. Madden. Mr. Ziegler has another colt that may be coupled with Spinach. This is Gone Away. The old battle scarred veteran, Royal Julian, is an eligible. He may start if his impost is not too heavy. He may make things hot for the choices, if the course should be soft. There will be daily features of merit during the final week. General manager C. W. Hay, in recognition of the splendid patronage, has directed secretary W. H. Shelley to exert himself in the preparation of attractions. »
