CROFTON AND LONG RUMORS First Named to Sell Entire Racing Stable Long- to Resign Prom Agua Caliente Jockey Club. AGUA CALIENTE, Mexico, Jan. 23. Latest developments today along the Agua Caliente front were to the effect that James N. Crofton, president of the Agua Caliente Jockey Club, would sell his entire racing stable and that Baron Long intended to retire as vice-president of the said jockey club. Crofton, who is in Los Angeles on business, made the announcement that he was disposing of his fourteen horse stable to avoid criticism often stirred up when a race track official races his own horses, although he pointed out that the practice was general. When asked to confirm the rumor that he intended to resign as an official of the Agua Caliente Jockey Club, Baron Long, whose stable was recently suspended from racing following the Linden Tree episode, said: "Upon Mr. Crof tons return from Mexico City recently I offered to resign at that time as vice-president of the jockey club, but president Crofton refused to accept my resignation. In the near future I expect to retire as an official of the jockey club." It may be that the famous jade and green racing colors of Baron Long have been seen on the turf for the last time, and it is just possible that through the recent suspension meted out to Mr. Long, California has lost one of its foremost breeders. Should Mr. Long decide to retire it will mean the disposal of his vast ranch near San Diego, as well as many choice stallions, brood mares and racing stock.
