JEFFERSON PARK NOTES s $ William Woodard, who wil Iserve as one of the patrol judges at the Fair Grounds, arrived from Lexington. A. Luzader has taken a four-year contract on L. Ruder, who has been galloping horses for the former here this winter. Ruder is a native of Newport, Ky. Delegates to the convention of the Western Fruit Jobbers Association in session here were entertained at Jefferson Park Friday. Races on the programs were named for Charles Trimble, present president of the association and former heads of the organization. All delegates were the guests of the management. It was also indicated that Gov. Huey P. Long of Louisiana, Mayor T. Semmes Walmsley of New Orleans, and other prominent state and city officials are expected to attend the charity day racing at Jefferson Park Sunday. Mrs. A. Pendergrass, wife of the well known jockey, presented her husband with a daughter. The babe, born Thursday morning, and her mather are reported as getting along well. Eugene Lutz, veteran horseman, who has been in ailing health for some few weeks, suffered a relapse late Thursday and was unable to venture outdoors today. Frank Swain has been engaged to train the horses of Fred M. Grabner, prominent Chicago patron, and leaves about February 1 for Kentucky, where he will take up ten horses, including four two-year-olds for his new employer. Jake Lowenstein formerly trained the Grabner stable and developed for that sportsman Windy City, Chicago and other good performers. The horses Swain has at the Fair Grounds will be raced through that meeting, Swain said. Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Schmidt returned from Havana, where they enjoyed a two weeks stay. Mr. Schmidt is the owner of the Superior Stable. William H. Shelley, one of the placing judges at the Fair Grounds this season, arrived from Miami, where he served at the recent Tropical Park meeting. Charles Hagan was an arrival from New York and will remain for the entire Fair Grounds meeting. Entrap and Nick Cullop, owned by A. J. Halliwell, of Toronto, will be shipped to Canada Saturday. Nick Cullop broke down badly in his last start .hero.
