JACK COLLINS WINS ANOTHER Overtakes Bather to Land First in Oriental Park Feature. Film Scores Easily Over Gunfire and Netie Pebbles Scapegoat, Favorite Successful in Third Bace. HAVANA, Cuba, Jan. 23 The fifth race of the day was the outstanding feature on Saturdays program at Oriental Park and Jack Collins, which races for E. McCuan, proved winner at the finish of the one. mile, and a sixteenth race. Ridden by Dupuy, he showed the way to W. M. Ingrams Bather, while Thistle Fyrn, one of the George Collins pair, was third and S. S. Friedleins Fortunate Youth fourth. Eight started. Racing was conducted under ideal conditions and over a fast track. The crowd was of a large size and seats were at a premium on the commodious stands and club house. H. P. Gardners Vestah Clark, ridden by R. Martin, was a driving winner of the first race of the day. Her margin of victory over C. Bergers Little Bill was a narrow one. Dr. N. B. Stewards Fair Atina was third. The dash was fashioned for maidens three-year-olds and upward under claiming conditions at six furlongs. There was scant delay at the post, but the running brought about a chapter of misfortunes that made the race anything but a truly run one. After covering the first furlong, Inarage bolted to the outside of the fence .rounding the far turn. In the meantime, Vestah Clark, Little Bill and Fair Atina were racing along closely grouped, with Vestah Clark on the inside. In the stretch run, Fair Atina went to the outside and carried Pictover with, her. Little Bill came again and finished strong in the final drive, but fell short of victory by a short head. Fair Atina closed gamely and was lapped on the leaders at the finish. Another six-furlong event brought about a driving finish and enabled Chummy, which races for Dixiana, to graduate from the maiden ranks when she earned a nose victory over Cuban Pete, while C. K. McDowells Teedup was third. Chummy raced f orwardly from the start and was rated along back of the pacemaker, Bad Guess. " The latter showed the way to the stretch turn, where he began to falter from his early efforts. Chummy, when called upon, disposed of Bad Guess and drew away slightly, but at the end was giving up his best to stand off the rush of Cuban Pete. The latter came with a rush through the stretch and at the finish was going strongest of all. Teedup, after saving ground entering the stretch, swerved to the inside under pressure at the furlong pole but came again. A well-matched band of platers started in the fourth race which was another six furlong sprint and the winner turned up in J. Hoskins Film, in easy fashion. H Stearns Gunfire was second while J. E. Smallmans Netie Pebbles was third. Eight started. There was a short delay ax the post, but when the break was effected, the field left in good alignment. Gunfire, Valley and Harry Hieover settled into their strides quickest, while Film was farther back. Rounding the far turn, there was a closing up and Film moved into serious contention as Harry Hieover and Valley began to shorten their strides. Gunfire continued to show the way in the stretch, but in the final furlong was unable to stand off the rush of Film, which drew away and had speed in reserve. Gunfire held on well to take the place while Netie Pebbles just managed to head off the fast closing Fairyman.
