SCOTCH GOLD IS NOMINATED English Colt, Now at Miami, May Go in Louisiana Derby. Trainer of Camp Douglas Refuses to Desert Colt and Will Hope for Mud When Race Is Run. NEW ORLEANS, La., Feb. 1. Although enthusiasts were inclined to drop Camp Douglas from serious consideration as a contender for the coming 0,000 added mile and one-eighth Louisiana Derby, following his defeat by Lucky Tom, Flaunt and other three-year-olds in the Jackson Square Purse at the Fair Grounds Saturday last, R. E. Heff eran, trainer of the J. J. Coughlin colt, is not discouraged and if the Louisiana Derby is decided over a muddy or heavy track, will back the son of Campfire to turn the tables on Lucky Tom and conquer others in quest of the Derby honors. Camp Douglas is very much troubled with tender feet and must have mud or heavy footing to show to best advantage, according to trainer Heff eran. The track Saturday was too firm to suit the young racer and if he continues to stand training and gets his going Derby day, he may accomplish what trainer Hefferan claims he will do if conditions suit. Entries for the Louisiana Derby continued to come in over the week-end and racing secretary Joseph McLennan announced a notable addition to the long list of eligibles in the English colt Scotch Gold, whose entry was telegraphed from Miami, where the son. of Duncan Gray and Rhine Gold recently won his first race as a three-year-old. Last year he scored in two engagements under the Howe Stable colors. Scotch Gold enhances the international aspect of the Fair Grounds feature, which also may attract from Hialeah Park such other leading three-year-olds of the winter as the Greentree Stables Espinaca; C. V. Whitneys Fatalist and Even Up, Peconic Stables On Sir and Song. Hit, and R. M. Eastmans Cathop. Up to this time entries for the race, which Continued on twenty-second page. Both in quality and number the eligibles for the race establish new standards for the popular and coveted fixture, formerly run at Jefferson Park, but taken over by the Louisiana jockey Club in the rearrangement of the racing time as worked out by the management of the two local tracks last winter.
