MEETING AT ST. JOHNS PARK 00 to 00 Purses Offered by Florida Jockey Club Opening Day Monday, March 21. JACKSONVILLE, Fla., March 15. Purses ranging from 00 to 00, sufficient to attract a large majority of the horses now running at Tropical Park, are announced by the Florida Jockey Club which will open its ten-day spring meeting at St. Johns Park, Bayard, Fla., next Monday, March 21. Conditions for the first five days promise interesting racing at that plant. The opening day feature, Monday, will be the St. Johns Handicap,, purse 00, for three-year-ojds and over, three-quarters of a mile. The Jacksonville Journal Purse will be run on that day also. This is a mile race for three-year-olds and over. The first race for two-year-olds will be run on the second day. It is a half-mile dash for maidens, weight 118 pounds, claiming price ,000. On this day the Hotel Andrew Jackson Purse will be decided. This is for three-year-olds, weight 118 pounds, with graduated allowances for non-winners of two races of ,000 in 1932, or ,500 at any time, for non-winners of ,000 this year, and for non-winners of two races of any value since December 18. Maidens are allowed fifteen pounds, but maiden and claiming races are not considered in the conditions. The distance is five and a half furlongs. Next Wednesdays banner event will be the Hotel Burbridge Handicap, at a mile and a sixteenth, for three-year-olds and over, purse 00. The Wednesday card will also include the Hotel Mayflower Claiming Purse, one mile, for four-year-olds and over, claiming price ,000, and the St. Augustine Record Claiming Handicap, for ,000 platers. The distance is one mile. The Bayard Purse, a dash of a half-mile for two-year-olds, will feature the Thursday card. This is worth 00. The George Washington Hotel Claiming Handicap, for three-year-olds and over, will attract horses entered at a claiming price of ,500. The distance of this is announced as five and one-half furlongs. The best sprinters on the track will be attracted to the Studebaker Champion Gold Cup Handicap, to be run Friday, March 25. This is for three-year-olds and over, at five and one-half furlongs. The Hotel Carling Claiming Handicap, at one mile, will claim some attention on this day. The claiming price is ,000. St. Johns official family will be much the same as that at Tropical Park. The stewards are Tom Thorp, Vincent Treanor and S. H. Woodward. H. D. Monroe will be presiding judge and the associates George Read and T. OBrien. Judge Monroe will also serve as racing secretary and the handi-cappers will be Messrs. Thorp, Treanor and Monroe. G. R. Wingfield will be the starter.
