Widener has made alternative applications for dates. Each is for an opening on January J 18, with one providing for continuous racing for forty-five days and the second for racing five days a week, Monday being an t off day, for a period of forty-four racing days. It seems probable that the five days a 1 week plan may be adopted by the Florida 1 Racing Commission, for there has been a 1 general desire among the merchants of f Miami to make Monday a shopping day for r winter visitors. At Belmont Park yesterday, Widener, re- " citing the benefits brought to Florida by the racing last year, when each county received slightly more than ,000, stated one county, after paying its current debts, had some a ,300 left over, which was applied to the B school fund. The outlying counties that t shared in this tax on racing, have a new 7 conception of the sport and the benefits 9 accruing from the tax has made racing J secure in Florida. Mr. Widener expressed 1 appreciation of J. S. "Tony" Wallace, who filled the role of racing secretary for the Miami Jockey Club. He said that in a obtaining the services of Joseph McLennan ! for next season, he felt that he engaged the e best man for the trying office. Already plans s are in the making for the best season of f racing ever attempted in Florida. One im-: portant change that will be made is a late e closing of the specials, in order that the best t horses may be obtained. Frank J. Bruen arrived from Miami J Thursday. He said that Tropical Park has become a truly beautiful race course. He e would not announce plans for the winter r racing of the Gables Racing Association.
