GALLANT KNIGHT DOING WELL Shows Fine Speed in Workont for Coming Renewal of Famous Old Suburban Handicap. NEW YORK, N. Y.. May 26.— Gallant Knight, generally considered as a potential candidate for the Suburban Handicap by reason of his victory in the Dixie Handicap at Pimlico, is being brought up to the Decoration Day test nicely. The son of Bright Knight was sent along for a handy half-mile in :48% today, and it is expected that he will be set a more severe task tomorrow morning. With the determination not to start Equipoise in the Suburban, the chances of Gallant Knight are greatly enhanced, and it is probable he will be the popular choice at post time. A. C. Bostwicks Mate, who showed an excellent performance in the Metropolitan when he was third to Equipoise and Sun Meadow, will be more at home racing a mile and a quarter. Yesterday morning the son of Prince Pal went along for a fast mile and a furlong in 1:51. It was accomplished handily, and the colt seems better than ever before. The fractions were :48, 1:13%, 1:37%, and the distance in 1:51. Thus it will be seen that a wonderfully fast pace was maintained throughout, with a final furlong in :13%. He had run a third quarter in :25% and a fourth quarter in :25, which is little short of phenomenal.
