Eves Venturer led home a high-class field In the Great Jubilee Stakes Handicap at Kempton Park recently he added another victory to the list compiled by Irish-bred horses in the outstanding English stake races this season. Previous successes of Irish-bred horses were scored by Jerome Fandor Lincolnshire Handicap, Estate Duty Liverpool Spring Cup, Arctic Star Leigh Memorial Handicap, Orwell Two Thousand Guineas and Greenham Stakes, Clogheen City and Suburban Handicap, and Knight Error Victoria Cup Handicap. Bred by Allan Baker, Tipperary, and foaled April 25, 1928, Venturer, a brother to the 1930 Lincolnshire Handicap and Victoria Cup winner, Knight Error, is a bay four-year-old son of Prince Galahad, out of V. A. D., by The White Knight, from Soldiers Daughter, by General Symons, from Kilkenny Lass, by Lesterlin. Offered as a year- ling at the 1929 Newmarket Second July Sales, Venturer was purchased in partnership by Lady Cunliffe Owen and Sidney Beer for ,000. After the colt had failed twice to win a juvenile race in the spring of 1930 the partnership was dissolved and Ven-[ turer was purchased for ,550 by Sir Hugo Cunliffe Owen at the Newmarket First July Sales that year. For his new owner the son of Prince Gala-5 had won the Badminton Plate, at York, and Mitre Plate, at Doncaster, both juvenile events, before he was again sold, this time for the bagatelle price of ,300 to L. E. Cribbin. Last year Venturer carried L. Cribbins silks to two victories in nine starts, the West Derby Stakes, at Liverpool, and the Doncaster Handicap Stakes. At the close of last years racing Venturer once more changed hands, but not stables, when he was sold to his present owner, H. Eves, but re-p mained in the care of trainer G. Clancy at Chitterne, Wiltshire. Prior to his success in the Great Jubilee , Stakes Venturer was a consistent, if some- what unlucky performer, as he was runner- up in the Liverpool Spring Cup and City and Suburban handicaps and, between them, fin- ished third in the Newberry Spring Cup.
