SUPER TOY IN GOOD FORM ♦ Takes Measure of Bozo in Thursdays Main Race at Bainbridge. ♦ light Showers Fail to Affect Track to Any I Great Extent — Crowd Surprisingly Large Considering Conditions. • CLEVELAND, Ohio, May 26.— In the absence of any special feature, interest centered in the outcome of the Wade Park Purse, the fifth race at Bainbridge Park this afternoon. The winner turned up in Mrs. W. H. Hoffmans Super Toy, ridden by jockey J. Sylvester. Bozo, the favorite, was second, and Shasta Charmer secured the short end of the purse. Despite his top impost, Bozo showed the way to the stretch head, with Shasta Charmer close up. At this point Super Toy moved up on the outside. A furlong out the Hoffman colorbearer overhauled Bozo, and she drew out into a clear lead nearing the finish. Shasta Charmer finished well in the rear of the leaders but retained a safe margin over the tiring Trudgeon, which raced prominently to the turn for home. Rain threatened during most of the afternoon, and light showers fell at intervals, but they failed to affect the track, which recovered wonderfully fast following yesterdays rain. An excellent mid-week day crowd witnessed the sport. The fields were large and evenly balanced, with keen stretch struggles much in evidence. Moving up gamely on the outside of the leaders in the stretch, Madelon got up in the last seventy yards to win the initial event. Her success marked the first victory at the course for jockey G. South. The French Rose threatened a furlong out, where she displaced Alamae in the lead, but failed to withstand the winners challenge. Alamae saved third because she held Forget Not in close quarters next to the inner rail all during the last quarter. H. H. Pierces Birthday Gift found a soft spot in the second race. He was never in trouble at any stage, nor fully extended. Being a pronounced choice, his victory proved a popular one. Participate and Marys Toy both came from behind during the stretch run to secure the minor awards, finishing closely lapped in the order named. Main Mount was prominent until midway in the stretch, then tired badly. H. Masseys Representative left the maiden ranks when he took the measure of a big band of his own kind in the third, a dash for two-year-olds. He followed within striking distance of the leader until well into the stretch, then came with a rush on the outside and won going away. Baldy Tinker and Daises Boy also came from behind in the last furlong to secure the smaller portions of the purse. Parade Step, Most Always and Bobby F. displayed the most early speed, but all three tired badly at the finish. One of the closest finishes of the meeting came in the running of the fourth, Omagh nosing out Kuvera in the final strides. Kuv-era led until well inside the final furlong, with Omagh in closest pursuit. In the final drive, however, Omagh proved the gamer. Ivan W. was well up throughout and retained third place handily at the finish. Bright Knot gained some ground from a slow beginning, as did High Span. •
