LATONIAS i GOLDEN JUBILEE . . . ea MEETING BEGINS TODAY Thirty-One Days of High Class and Thrilling Sport in Prospect Inaugural Program, Headed by Clipsetta Stakes, Un questionably Best Opening Offering in Recent Years LATONIA, Ky., June 24. Picturesque Latonia, for fifty years one of the principal racing points and steeped high in fine traditions and envied background of a half-century of glorious racing, opens tomorrow for its regular annual early summer meeting of thirty-one days. Always one of the most important meetings on the racing calendar, the season opening tomorrow with one of the most attractive programs for such an occasion in several years, promises more brilliant and outstanding sport than in recent seasons. In both quantity and quality, horses in the scores of fashionable stables here for the meeting outstrip those attracted to the local track during the past few years and if the effect of general conditions, economically speaking, is not too severe, the session may prove one of the most successful held in this country this year. The Latonia Derby, for three-year-olds and decided at the accepted true derby distance of one mile and one-half, heads the program of stakes and handicaps for the meeting. In all seven fixtures will be renewed and the Latonia Derby, to be run one week from tomorrow, will mark the fiftieth staging of that old feature. Other headliners in addition to the Derby and the Clipsetta Stakes, principal number on tomorrows excellent card, are the Independence Handicap, Quick Step Handicap, Cincinnati Trophy, Enquirer Handicap and Latonia Oaks. No better nor larger field ever was named for the Clipsetta Stakes, for two-year-old fillies, than that which accepted for tomorrows fiftieth running of that race at five and one-half furlongs. In all eighteen were named and the race bids to develop the sharpest contest of the season in this partic- ular division. STAR JUVENILES. The following is the field for the Clipsetta Stakes : Horse. The eve of the inauguraton saw the racing strip at its best, and, barring rain, first day patrons shoud find the entertainment swiftly done. Seven races will be run, with the field for the first reaching the starting post at. 2:15 oclock. In the thorough renovating of the stands, clubhouse and other buildings, much painting was done, yet much of the rustic remains and it is doubtful if the popular old grounds ever looked finer. During the meeting, the racing will be supervised by the same staff of officials employed last year and several for many years. Charles F. Price, Thomas C. Bradley, C. Bruce Head and Elijah Hogg will be in the stewards stand, while William Shelley, S. H. McMeekin and Sherman Goodpaster will do the placing and William Hamilton the starting. Mr. Shelley also acts as racing secretary and handicapper. All fields will be started with the Bahr starting gates. Howard Wells unloaded the large stable that he trains for Hamilton and Miller, the Fairview Farm and Howard Oots. Catherine Fox and Elizabeth Fox, Latonia eligi-bles; Miss Kid, a Clipsetta nominee; Shaker Lady, Love Offering and twelve others made up the shipment. The contract that the Audley Farm stable held on Clifford Callahan having expired, the boy will ride free lance during the meeting.
